The M18 Fuel impact can not be beat. The multiple settings help when your switching fastners through the day. Yes I know similar (or other brands) also have multi-speed tools but for me this was a no brainer. The torque and constant power helps with all day use. Plus if you are already invested into the M18 line the batteries are interchangeable.

I have been an Electrician for 35 years and have multiple Milwaukee 20 volt fuel cordless tools that are exceptional. I cannot say the same for this Impact Driver which I have had for a few weeks now, low speed is to slow, the 3 other speeds are too fast with not enough hammer. It consistantly spins off the screw damaging the bit tip, screw, and/or finished wall. The “Impact” / hammering as I call it doesn’t kick in fast enough.

This is my 3rd Milwaukee same model. The 1st two have had issues with the chuck not holding the bits. Also the impact will also stall for no reason while driving lags, or self tappers. I’m hoping the 3rd is a charm. The old impacts never had these issues!

I already had the 1/2″ drive unit so this was an easy choice for me. Used this to drive all of the screws through the metal roof and siding on my 24 x 24 pole barn. Started with the 1 Ah battery but soon upgraded to the 4Ah batteries. Can go all day on one battery. Even used it to drive the 6″ lag screws that held all Girts and purlins in place. Indispensable tool for this application. being small and using a short drive bit allowed me to get into places my conventional cordless drill wouldn’t be able to fit into.
