This is a very handy tool. It easily cuts through light or hard metals with ease. There is plenty of life in the provided 18 volt batteries for many cuts. The tool is well balanced and can be maneuvered easily for the cuts. The deep throat as well as the adjustable plate is also good for getting an accurate cut. I used it to cut 1/8″ angle iron as well as lighter metals where I would be struggling with a hack saw, I was able to cut through like butter. I find it much more convenient than other methods I have used for cutting metal.

I’d been looking forward to trying this saw out. I’d had a look at its line powered counterpart at work and have had very good experiences with the M18 line of tools. This one is no exception to the rule and is very well built and easy to use with no sacrifice on power. With these extended capacity batteries and this fast charger you can keep this thing going all day if need be and not miss a beat. I’ve given it a pretty good workout and it’s never flagged on anything I’ve thrown at it.I paired it with a swag table and it makes for a really sweet combination. The swag table is very heavy and the saw fits it precisely. I mounted the whole setup to a table on which I put some adjustable casters. So I can easily roll it out the door of my shop if needed. Also the saw easily detaches from the table giving full use of the portability aspect of the saw. Some may prefer the corded model for use with the table because you can use a foot switch with it. But I like being able to pop it out of the table and not drag a cord around. The control you get on cutting and the ease with which you can make precise cuts is great. The only error I made with this setup is waiting this long to get it. It would have made so many jobs easier than what they were. The case this kit comes with is impressive and really stores the whole kit and protects it well and has room for some additions like perhaps a spare blade or two. It’s the size of a large suitcase. Installing and removing blades could not be easier. I love that because I hate tools that make blade swaps a hassle. This is a workhorse of a saw and it has every bit of the quality of the rest of the M18 line. It is a tool with some heft to it just due to the size but on the whole for what it is I think it is pretty easy to handle and not overly heavy. Load it into the swag table and you have the equivalent of a much more expensive band saw with the advantage of being portable. I’m a big fan of the M18 line and have quite a few of the M18 tools and I have to say this is my favorite so far. The only way you can go wrong with it is by doing a lot of work the hard way first instead of going ahead and getting it.

Everything you need to get started is in the box. I have never seen one of these before, so I went on YouTube to see a video. The instructions are okay, but I wasn’t confident that I had the blade on correctly until I confirmed with the video. I really can’t believe this is cordless because it has a TON of power. The battery charges quickly and stays charged. I tried it on some angle iron and it was no effort at all to saw through. It works great for a right handed person but I suspect a lefty might have trouble seeing what they are cutting because the tool is angled and I think the project would be blocked from view. I can’t check that theory because I can’t do anything left handed. I checked my cuts with a square and they are perfect. The saw makes some noise but not nearly what I had expected and much quieter than most of my other metal working tools. A person would be limited by material 4″ or less but that is much larger than anything I need it for.

After charging the battery I put this to good use. I am making some shelf brackets and had been cutting the pieces by hand then welding them together. With the band saw I was able to cut multiple pieces at once of different lengths at a time. Saving lots of time. It cut nice and smooth ends for me. I think the only problem I had was getting the blade first installed and the instructions only had shown how it looked. I found that putting it in the guide rollers first then around the drive wheels worked out fine. The unit is a little heavy but is manageable as long as you are cutting straight down. A real time saver for piece work. I also see you can buy a table to mount the saw on which I plan on getting then I don’t have to worry about holding it while cutting by hand.

This is a review of Milwaukee’s 18V [“M18 FUEL” Lithium-Ion] Cordless Deep-Cut Bandsaw Kit #2729-22HD.It’s one of the latest additions in Milwaukee’s arsenal of powerful, high-demand professional tools; definitely not for your weekend warrior types. The kit includes the bandsaw, a pair of 9.0Ah ‘high demand” batteries, a smart RAPID charger [48-59-1808], a 14 tpi bimetal band, and a rugged case. The bandsaw incorporates a variable speed brushless motor and with battery, pushes 20 lbs; while that might seem excessive, it’s that weight that exerts the downward cutting force … you need not apply any more. The throat of the saw is large enough to cut through a 5” x 5” box beam. On deep cuts, to assist in getting started, you have a ‘material guide’ that will drop to about 2” below the surface. The blade runs atop ‘rubber’ bands that girdle the fore and aft sheaves. The forward “idler” sheave on mine doesn’t ‘spin like a top’ either due to interference, shaft run-out, or a poor quality bearing. The driven, rear sheave has a ‘clearer brush’ to keep debris from accumulating on the ‘rubber band’ and causing premature failure.Changing blades is easy. There are no tracking adjustments like you find on a belt sander; the pair of 3-roller [bearing] guide blocks keep the blade centered in the cut zone.I would normally rate a bandsaw with these qualities highly; unfortunately, I have to ding it a STAR since Milwaukee states the unit needs to be brought into a service center at 6-to-12-month intervals for “inspection, cleaning, and lubrication”. What!? Sounds like the proverbial “razor and blades” business model. For a big bucks investment like this, and not being a rocket engine, I would expect a user-maintinable tool. The saw is made in China, the blade in USA, the battery in SKorea/China, and the charger in China.

I have had the non-fuel band saw for a few years now, and it has served me well. But it couldn’t handle some of the bigger pieces I need to cut. So I had to keep a corded deep cut band saw for those items. Not any more. This saw will handle the big pieces, and handle them well. This saw is both larger and heaver then the old one. You are going to have a hard time using it one handed. But it is worth the extra effort. It has plenty of power to handle big stock. It has variable speed, so you can set the speed to the material you are cutting. You set the speed with a dial, not by trigger pressure. That way, you can hold a steady speed. Other features include an adjustable stop, and an automatic LED so you can see where the blade is going to cut.The kit comes with 9.0AH high-demand batteries, and they last a long time. But if you need to, you can also use the 5.0AH batteries. But with the included quick charger, chances are the two included batteries will keep you going as long as you have power available to charge them.

The corded Milwaukee deep cut band saws we used in construction never failed a job task. They are tough, took plenty of abuse and never quit (like we had to). It is refreshing to now have as powerful and rugged a tool, but in a very convenient and portable cordless format. This deep-cut band saw handles up to 5″ round square stock material, and my 4″ black angle iron cuts that I made were swift and clean. This unit has some heft with the long lasting 9.0Ah battery that assist in making effortless cuts, just steady and guide the saw, It does all the work! Functions and ergonomics are top notch and the blade change quick lever release for the front wheel works very well and quick. The LED light illuminates the cutting area, helping to see the guide path of the cut. The trigger has a solid safety lock for when not in use and the variable speed control helps when trying to make more intricate slower cutting task. This is a well built, high quality specialty tool as I’ve come to expect and appreciate from Milwaukee Tools. Of course, I can take the tool to the job site where the material to cut is stored, no cords needed…Nice! You can read all about the features and performances, but till you put one in your hands and feel the strength and smooth torque of the brushless motor, it’s hard to imagine any metal cutting task it can’t handle.

This band saw looks & Feels like it could do the job, (& it CAN)! After I read the easy to understand operator’s manual, I Installed the included 14 teeth per inch band saw blade. There is a lever, on the front of the band saw. When the lever is pulled one way, it slacks the front wheel, permitting the saw blade to fit in it’s track & around the two wheels. Then, after the blade is securely in it’s track, pulling the lever the opposite way tightens & securely holds the blade in it’s track. I found the safety, lock button, above the trigger, very handy to prevent accidental starting. The band saw has 5 cutting speeds, from #1- slow, to #5- fast cutting. I cut off a section of 2″ O.D. x 1/8″ thick steel pipe in 20 seconds, on cutting speed #5. I changed to #1 cutting speed & cut the same pipe in 71 seconds. I also cut off a section of angle iron, 3″ x 3″ x 1/4″ thick, in 62 seconds on #5 fast speed. It took 99 seconds to cut the same angle iron on #1 slow speed. The cutting teeth felt just as sharp as new, even after cutting several other sections. I used the tool for 2 hours & the battery still had plenty of life in it. The weight of the tool itself, supplies enough downward pressure to cut through steel, all I had to do was pull the trigger & keep it steady. The adjustable material guide/fence, kept the band saw against the work piece, without trying to pull me forward, while cutting. One hand on the trigger handle & my other hand on the front handle gave me full & steady control, while cutting. The trigger handle has a rubberized coating for anti-slip. Both handles are ergonomically designed & comfortable to hold. The bright LED, supplied plenty of light on the work surface, when I pulled the trigger. The heavy duty carry case should protect the band saw, batteries & charger through nearly anything. This is a very heavy duty, powerful, great product.

This kit comes with a great carrying case that holds the saw, battery charger and two batteries that come with the unit. When setting up the saw I wasn’t sure that I had the blade installed properly as the directions were not real clear and no pictures were provided but it went on and worked fine with little effort. The saw is hefty but the weight is used to push the blade through the material with no effort on your part to push the saw down. It cuts through metal pipes like a hot knife through butter. Very easy to use and has plenty of power, which you can adjust to your job needs with a handy control knob with speed settings from 1 – 5. As a bonus it has a nice work light built into it that lights up the work area. Overall, with ample power and two batteries it will get the job done easily. And with no power cord to trip over. Would recommend to anyone.
