As a solar installer, I drive a lot of nuts and bolts. What I’ve noticed is that once the nut bottoms out, it vibrates and gives my hand an annoying buzz. After a day of this I could feel it. That being said, I love it for all other applications and I’m starting to get a feel for how to drive bolts without causing too much vibration. My coworkers with the surge don’t feel it so…

Surge Impact: This impact is amazingly powerful and unbelievably quiet. I chose this over the standard impact in the hopes that it would be quieter when working in client’s homes. It is AT LEAST half as loud as my Gen1 Brushed Impact. The multiple speeds are a very nice upgrade from my Gen1 as well. The first setting is perfect for installing screws on drawer slides as it tightens them nicely but doesn’t strip them out or snap them (I have much more control using this than my single speed Gen1 Impact). This thing is so powerful, I wasn’t being careful and almost sucked 3/8″ hex head bolts clean through 13/16″ exterior sheathing. This also sank 3″ deck screws with ease and far quicker than my Gen1. I am very happy that I got this impact. This isn’t your standard impact because the mechanism is completely different (Anvil vs Hydrolic).The chuck is also different and I really like it. All you have to do is slide the bit in whereas my Gen1 I have to pull the collar forward to insert and lock in a bit. The philosophy of use is also a bit different than a standard impact. You don’t get the peak torque generated by a hammer and anvil set-up but you get a more sustained torque curve with the hydrolic mechanism.Batteries: These last a long, long time. I drilled a dozen and a half 1-1/4″ holes in timber with a self feed spade bit, 8 1/2″ holes in 1/4″ steel, a dozen 1/4″ holes in 1/4″ steel, a half dozen 35mm holes with a forstner bit, a bunch of countersunk holes, and I can’t remember what else and I only drained half the battery. I put these batteries in my Gen1 Brushed Drill/Driver and Impact and noticed an increase in power over my old batteries. I’m hoping my Oscillating Multi-Tool will last a lot longer with these as it wore my old batteries out in ten minutes.

One of the best surge impact drivers on the market. Very lightweight and quiet compared to the regular impact drivers, less torque (450 in-lbs) but is the same amount it doesn’t fall unlike regular impact drivers. Comes with case, m18/m12 standard charger and 2 – 5.0 Ah M18 batteries. Got this deal for $100 off.
