This is a serious multi-use cordless tool with power to spare. It is part of the M18 Tool series so the batteries can be used in over 100 different tools. The grinder can also be used with a wire brush wheel or wire brush cup style. I thought the guard was pretty easy to remove for different applications and wheels. It is a tool-less operation to do that so no fumbling around looking for tools. The tool is built solid and it has some weight to it but it is easy to handle. I used it to clean up some rust off my snowblower with a wire wheel and cup and it made quick work out of an otherwise long sanding, scraping and hand brushing process. There are a wide variety of 4 1/2 inch wheels available for different materials. I used the grinder wheel to clean up some joints that were a bit rusty too.It is powerful so a light touch is needed. Besides being a mechanical workhorse all the electronics “talk” to each other, the battery the motor and the charger to produce the best results and run times. It also has an electronic clutch and I noticed the clutch did make adjustments in speed/power as I was bearing down on some areas. It will also protect the tool if it should bind up in the material like in a cutoff application. It is a “smart” tool. Make sure to wear safety equipment and you use this to protect yourself from any flying debris. It takes a little time to get the right speed, position and motion with the tool to produce good to fine results and the paddle switch with no lock, in my opinion, really helps out with that and is well locatedIt runs at 8500 RPM and it is cordless. That kind of power in a grinder is or was usually reserved for corded tools. To keep the internal parts clean from dust it also has a removable dust screen which is easy to remove and clean.. If your looking for a grinder, sander, cutoff tool and brush tool that is built to last and delivers the power of a corded tool this is the tool for you. It comes in a nice case with the tool 2 batteries for plenty of run time power, charger, wheel guard, flange nut and wrench.

I absolutely love this new angle grinder. I have had a corded 4 ½” angle grinder for years. I use it a lot and it was getting noisy and ready for replacement. This Milwaukee grinder became available just in time. I use a grinder for removing weld slag and grinding down weld bead. The 110 volt outlet on my portable welder died a couple of years ago and since then I have had to lug a generator around along with the welder. With this grinder the generator is no longer needed. The M18 Fuel grinder seems to have as much power as my corded grinder and it goes anywhere. Another advantage of a battery grinder is no cord to worry about. I have ground holes in the cord of my old grinder when I was grinding in a tight space like under a bulldozer. With the battery grinder no cord to grind and no cord to get caught on things when you are in a tight place. I hadn’t anticipated that I could use it as a sander but that was a suggested use in the instructions. The required accessories were not included but I will be looking into buying them. If that works and I can get rid of using a pneumatic sander and its associated air hose and compressor I will be one happy person. The final positive thing about this tool is that it arrived in a hard shell case. The case has molded locations for everything that you need to run and charge the tool. In the past several years all of the manufactures seem to have gone to soft cases and the hard case is so much better. When you open the case all of the components are right where you can access them. No fishing in the bottom of a cloth bag. I can’t think of a single thing that I don’t like about this tool.

The Milwaukee M18 Fuel 18 Volt 4 1/2 inch Grinder is a Very Powerful Battery Pack Tool. I own a lot of Battery Pack tools and this the most Powerful of them all. The 9.0Ah batteries last longer than any I’ve owned. This Kit has it all. Two Batteries, Two Quick Change Guards, Fast Charger, Screw in Handle, Wrench, Manual and a awesome Hard Case. I used it to cut a bed rail up for my trailer and it went threw it like butter. It’s a Great Tool to have. Nice not having to plug in long cords is Awesome.

I have only had corded grinders and always wanted a cordless one for the convenience of intermittent use and portability. Because I already use the Milwaukee M18 set this was an easy choice. Though the grinder is a bit bulkier than my 4.5″ corded one it is not very heavy at all, the paddle switch is safe and easy to use one-handed and turns off easily (again, perfect for intermittent use) and the grinder itself is very powerful and smooth. More than I expected from a battery-operated tool honestly. The two 9.0Ah batteries last a long time each and the rapid charger kept up with me during regular use. It’s hard to convey using just words how professional of a tool this grinder is. The convenience of portability and the smooth operation of on/off/on/off constant use plus a powerful (understatement) set of batteries is hard to beat in any setting where time is money and you are on the move constantly, either in an attic of a home or a new highrise, if you have any grinder task such as grinding or cutting, sanding or paint prepping, and don’t want to constantly drag an extension cord around, this is your tool.

Overall a solid high grade grinder that performs like a corded tool. Other than a small test run have not used all day but like the rest of Milwaukee M18 fuel tools I expect it to perform and exceed expectations. The grinder is well balanced and the paddle switch works to perfection. The kit comes complete with a HD rapid charger, 2 heavy duty 9 ah batteries and a solid case. I have multiple Milwaukee M18 tools including circular saw which work well with 5ah batteries but expect the 9ah to add to performance. Overall excellent heavy duty grinder with rapid charger and upgraded batteries. Built to last and perform.

A well appointed kit comprising: The basic cordless tool, two M18 Fuel Batteries, Battery Charger, 4 1/2 inch and 5 inch wheel guards, extra filter screen, Removable/reversible cushioned auxiliary handle, manual and spanner wrench. Manufactured in China, quality seems to be high, though the 5 year tool warranty and 3 year battery warranty should handle any “infant mortality” issues due to the electronics. The brushless motor does not lack for power and is consistent with corded angle grinders of this size. The two guards supplied can be removed, replaced and adjusted without the need for tools. A tool is necessary (and is supplied) to remove the wheel or disk to permit removal of the guards. All of my other angle grinders (corded and cordless) use a slide switch, with a latch so getting used to the non-locking paddle switch took a few moments and on more than a few occasions I thought it had shut down…but I had merely let up pressure on the paddle. If you really push it hard, the protection circuitry will inhibit starting until it has rested a bit (this can be a little disconcerting, but, in the long run will protect the tool from damage due to overload). A standard 5/8 in. X 11 spindle is used permitting mounting of disks and wheels with a plain arbor hole (using the supplied spanner nut) as well as using wheels and disks incorporating an integrally threaded boss. An integral shaft lock is provided to prevent rotation when installing or removing wheels/disks. A removable filter is supplied (along with a spare) which snaps onto the handle of the tool. I did notice that after using the concrete grinding wheel, a lot of fine dust had permeated the screen and I had to vacuum both the screen and the handle housing. For normal sized metal particles encountered during cutting and grinding, this should not be an issue. I put the tool through its paces using: A cutting disk, a grinding wheel, a flap disk (my all time favorite) and a diamond concrete grinding wheel. The tool had plenty of power for all these uses and, after grinding off rivets on a bed frame, making some cuts in steel channel, sharpening two mower blades with a flap disk and continuing to grind a high spot on the concrete driveway (that I had started with a corded tool) the battery still was showing two “bars” (of four total), and was delivering full output regardless of charge state. I takes about an hour to charge from one bar to four bars, allowing you to continue with the spare battery while the first one is charging. Overall, a well balanced tool that can be used for a long time without fatigue. I would not continue to use if for concrete work, due to the fine power working its way into the tool but this will become my go-to flap disk angle grinder.

I received my Milwaukee 4 ½” M18 fuel grinder today. This is a very heavy duty grinderProbably the most powerful cordless grinder on the market. It comes with 2 batteries, 2 shields, wrench, battery charger and an extra filter For the air intake, which is a cleanable wire mesh type filter. It will take a 1/8” or a 1/4” cutting wheel or grinding wheel. Also, will accept variousWire brushes.I especially like the tool free guard removal, and paddle switch. This grinder will accept any Milwaukee18-volt battery, but the ones that come with it are Milwaukee’s most powerful 9.0 AH at 162 wh.This grinder is by far the most capable grinder I have ever used, its more powerful than the corded One’s I have. So far with a cutting wheel it has cut thru heavy angle iron on a very heavy duty welding bench I am rebuilding, and as for the grinding it works very well on the welds and fitting the seams on the iron.I am impressed by the power, ease of use and the longevity of the 9.0 ah batteries.
