This review is for the new 7″/9″ Milwaukee cordless angle grinder kit, Product 2785-22HD. The grinder is rated at 6600 RPM. This kit includes the 7″/9″ grinder with brushless motor, 2-12.0 Amp. hour M18 RED LITHUM batteries, M12 and M18 Rapid Charge battery charger, 9″ Type 27 guard, FIXTEC spindle nut, nylon washer, backing flange, spanner wrench, side handle and heavy fabric carrying bag. The carrying bag has a large zippered opening and is large enough to also carry accessories like grinding wheels, wire brushes, face guard, gloves, etc. The grinder includes a dust screen to protect the motor from excessive dust and debris. The motor itself has a controlled start feature to prevent torque “jerk” reaction when the tool is started. This is an industrial-grade grinder from my perspective, it being very sturdy and powerful and built for long running times with the supplied batteries. The batteries weigh about 3 pounds, 5-1/2 ounces each. Despite its capabilities, this grinder weighs only about 12-1/2 pounds in a “ready-to-go” state with the side handle and guard in place and with a 7-inch (not supplied) metal grinding wheel installed. This tool has comfortable soft-grip handles and is well-balanced for easy control. The operating and safeguard controls are user-friendly. I particularly like the “on-off” switch and its paddle-type lock-off. The cast metal guard has five detents for five operating positions. The positions are easily changed by pressing the guard adjustment lever and rotating the guard. This grinder tool is not overly noisy and is free of excessive vibration during operation. Accessories are easily changed with the help of a spindle lock. The FIXTEC spindle nut is a nice feature, it facilitating tool removal and installation without need for a wrench. The Operator’s Manual is direct and easy to understand. The manual pays substantial and appropriate attention to safe operation, highly important for angle grinding operations. This tool has a five-year limited warranty. A three-year limited warranty applies for the batteries. I put this grinder through workouts doing metal grinding, weld cleanups before painting and texturing lumber using a sanding disc and wire wheel accessories. It worked flawlessly. This is product is a valued and welcome addition to my workshop.

At my farm 110 volt electricity is not always near by, when some heavy duty work has to be done. This Milwaukee cordless 7/9 in. grinder supplied the power & durability to start & finish some hard steel cutting. Using a 7″ dia. metal cutting disc, I cut several sections off of a, no longer needed, steel pipe fence, attached to my barn. The steel pipes were 2″ dia. Although it took quite awhile to cut off the sections, I wanted to remove, this grinder gave me constant, reliable, steady power, from the beginning of the project through to the end. This Milwaukee cordless grinder starts smooth as it instantly builds up to full power, unlike my corded 7″ dia. portable grinder, that starts with a kick. The side handle is 6″ long & heavy duty. It is partially ribbed, rubberized coated & provided a maximum non slip grip. I found the ergonomically designed handle with power switch, in the perfect position for maximum control & comfort. The textured rubberized coating, on the power switch handle, provided a solid non slip surface for my sweaty hands. The levered, power switch safety lock-off is incorporated on the surface of the power switch. It effectively prevented me from starting the grinder, by accident. A small movement with my finger on the levered safety switch, closes the circuit so I could safely pull the trigger, without any further hand movements, to start the grinder. While holding onto the side handle & power switch handle, I found the grinder perfectly balanced for maximum control, safety & comfort. I was able to re-position the guard in seconds, by simply depressing the unique guard lock lever & rotating the guard to where I needed it next. It only took a minute to change the metal cutting disc to a 16 grit 7″ dia. sanding disc. I depressed the spindle lock & inserting the included spanner wrench into the fixtex nut & loosened it for removal. Again, this grinder gave me full control & flexibility as I rough sanded the end of a 12″ dia. Cedar stump, with constant, smooth power. I changed discs again, this time installing a masonry cutting disc. This grinder easily cut a 2″ deep kerf in 50 year old cured concrete, without slowing down, or balking. The heavy duty battery lasted the entire 3 hour work session. The meter, on the back of the battery, showed me how much power I had left, at any time. The carry bag is very heavy duty, has a padded bottom & incorporates 3 storage pockets on either side of the bag. The bag opens wide & stays that way for easy access. The bag has 2 handles & a shoulder strap for maximum ease of transport, any way I wanted to carry it. This is a HIGHEST QUALITY power tool!
