I need to start this review by praising Milwaukee for creating a great system for either an in-house mechanic shop or single site construction operations. Having a 750/1000 ft. lbs. bolt down capability and a 1400 ft lbs. break loose capability this is the best 18 volt 1/2″ impact wrench on the market. There are two reasons for this preface. First to use the 4 position One-Key system you need to dedicate a blue tooth smart phone or computer to control or change the Total Speed / Speed Climb Rate / Torque / or even the Bolt-Off capability. For each of four presets or technicians using the tool. As you might imagine this becomes memory intensive for even four users or uses you want to set the tool for. If you enable the GPS feature you can also locate exactly where the tool was placed by the last user. Eliminating the time to search a shop or truck boxes for the tool using the One-Key system could be a time saver in itself. Great for multi truck or multi mechanic situations. With all of those capabilities regardless which of these situation fit your workplace these are great features. If however you have a single jobsite for the tool or are a do-it-yourselfer needing to dedicate a blue tooth device to use the tool makes it overly cumbersome. So unless you have never used an impact wrench previously or have a large work crew the One-Key system is not for you.

“With this machine I could make enough torque to move the earth – if I had somewhere to stand.” That’s a butchered paraphrase of a quote from my high school physics book, but it came to mind when using this impact wrench. Don’t ask me why, but I own 5 other impact wrenches – 3/8″, 1/2″ and 3/4″ air-driven, and Ryobi (1/2″) and Rigid (3/8″) 18v. Basically, the 3/8″ and 1/2″ air guns sit unused since I went cordless, and the 3/4″ gun came out only as a tool of last resort. Well, I can safely say it will now be gathering dust, this Milwaukee gun is the new king of the garage. At 7.33 lbs with battery, this is no lightweight. But it is very compact, which is very important to me.Batteries – I don’t yet have enough experience to say how long they will last, but I can say the first charge (out of the package) too about 80 minutes. Now – it’s a monster 18v torque wrench with …. bluetooth and a smartphone app. It looks like you can track usage, which would be a good feature for a pro. They tout a “find my tool” feature, but let’s get real – you can find it within bluetooth range, not in your buddy’s pickup truck. The app also lets you maintain your inventory of compatible Milwaukee tools. I concede this could be of use to a pro. Also, you can set options on the tool via the app. I’m having a hard time imagining myself using this, though.Summary – tough, high-torque, compact impact wrench that packs a wallop. The connectivity and app may or may not be for you, though.

I do the maintenance for our church that has several tractors and other equipment, we have 25+ acres and part of our outreach is gardening several acres. Now I don’t have to rely on the breaker bar with an extension to remove lug nuts. This has handles removing the lugs nuts with no problem. With it being battery operated I don’t have to take my portable air compressor to us my pneumatic impact gun. I have used it to change a flat tire on the car, a little over kill but t save time. I’m not sure I’ll set up the ONE-KEY feature because I don’t loan my tools out and I don’t leave them laying around, so someone could walk off with it. I can see this being used by steel building assembly companies. With truck shops his would allow them to track the location of the tool should it be misplaced.

I like air tools. I like the weight and not needing to worry about a battery running down. This impact wrench has convinced me that sometimes battery operated tools are the better option. I have had zero problem removing lug nuts with this tool. It is actually faster than using my air gun. And as a bonus I don’t have to mess with the hose getting hooked under a tire. With 2 batteries and a quick charger I haven’t run out of battery power either. The weight is good, the tool is well balanced, it has plenty of power and the hard case fits everything well.
