If you cut a lot of threaded rod this tool will make your life easy! The Milwaukee Threaded Rod Cutter is a specialized tool for those working with course threaded rod. It uses a moving top die and a fixed bottom die to cut threaded rod in 1/4 inch, 3/8 inch and 1/2 inch diameters. When used properly, the resulting cut will be clean with no thread damage allowing a nut to spin on without hesitation. The kit included the cutter, 2.0 Ah battery, charger and a hard case. The cutter is heavy but it can be used both hand held and on a bench or flat surface. Changing between rod diameters requires the dies to be detached and rotated then reattached. This is performed with a 5mm Allen key which is attached to the tool. Unfortunately, the short side of the Allen key is longer than a normal Allen key and I found it would hit the tool when screwing in the bottom die. It would be so much easier to use if it was a tad shorter. In addition, I found the Allen key does not fit tightly in its mounting location and I am worried it might fall out and be lost. The trigger for the cutter must be held through the whole cycle (i.e.: no lock option). This lets you bump the trigger a few times to get the dies to hold the rod and make sure it is in the tool properly and then execute the full cut. Post cut it will cycle back to fully open and stop. The tool also features a reverse button in case there is a jam or some other reason to not finish the cut cycle. An LED light also shines on the cutting area for improved visibility. The dies of the tool support the following materials:Mild Steel:1/4″-203/8”-161/2″-13M6x1M8x1.25M10x1.5M12x1.75Stainless Steel:1/4″-203/8”-16M6x1M8x1.25M10x1.5

This M18 18 volt cordless brushless threaded rod cutter kit with battery, charger and case is a great tool for a person that works in basements or crawl spaces for making hangers for wiring, plumbing. You can cut very easily in between rafters and in tight spaces. You can get about 40 cuts in one battery charge. The cut is burr free so you don’t have to mess around trying to get the nut on, it goes right on. It cuts three different sizes of rods. It has a front facing cut surface, that provides the clearest line of cut of sight. It also lays horizontal for bench top use, LED light and a self contained allen wrench in the handle.

I gave this 4 out of 5 stars due to it’s weight and the lack of a lock button so make sure the battery is out of it when not in use. Other than those complaints, this is a great tool that I find very very handy. I used this to cut some 1/4″-20 course thread rods. I needed the rods cut for some camera mounts that I am building. Prior to having this, my plan was to a recip saw or a hacksaw. This cut the rod CLEANLY in about 2 seconds. There were no burrs to clean up or tend to. I found that laying this down and operating it that way works best due to the heavy weight of this tool. Changing the cutting die was quick and easy, there is an allen wrench in the handle to swap them out. This comes with a 2.5ah battery and the reduced size of the battery compared to higher capacity batteries is recommended by me due to the weight difference

Very impressed with this tool. I like the portability of it to use at practicably any location under various configurations. A great use was for hanging trapeze supports for conduit and pipe supports. Easily set the elevation with the threaded rod and cut as required. No burrs, no wasted time – very professional job. Additionally this can be operated on a bench for multiple cuts and fabricating threaded rod for specific purposes and lengths. Great tool!

Have not used it to much in the time I have had it. It is awkward and top heavy making it a chore to hold it. It cut clean, manual cutter still faster. No quick changing 1/2 to 3/8 or vise versa. It is perfect for cutting rod that is up in the air already. Wait for a promotion or sale

Works great, quick, efficient. It is heavier than I expected, but that translates to heavy duty.

this tool could be great if it did what they say it did. Got for a job that had a lot of 3/8 rod and it worked well, soon as i figured out the best way to hold the tool/ rod to get the cleanest cut. No complaints. A few days ago had a few pieces of 1/2 rod to cut and figured I’d show off my new cool tool to a few buddies. Boy did i look like a fool! Wouldn’t even put a mark in 1/2 rod….. i have a lot of red tools and all of them except for this one have been great. Hopefully milwaukee will step up and fix the issue, or at least not make false claims.
