The Milwaukee M18 FUEL 1/2 in. Mid-Torque Impact Wrench w/ Friction Ring delivers the best power to weight ratio, most access in tight spaces, and faster removal speed. It provides 650 ft. lbs. of nut-busting torque and only weighs 5.1 lbs., making it extremely versatile, capable of performing a wide variety of applications. Its POWERSTATE Brushless Motor generates the power needed to quickly perform many tasks, such as removing large bolts or lug nuts. This cordless impact wrench is the most compact in its class, giving users access to stubborn fasteners in spaces where larger impact wrenches can’t fit without needing to disassemble components to reach bolts. Tri-LEDs surround the anvil to deliver brighter light with fewer shadows. 4-Mode DRIVE CONTROL offers greater precision with a range of pre-set RPM and IPM levels, selectable from a single button on the tool. By selecting Mode 4, AUTO SHUT-OFF control applies no more than 35 ft. lbs. of torque for hand-tight fastening applications to prevent overtightening. Mode 4 also features Bolt Removal Control that delivers users full torque output, then decreases RPMs once the bolt is loosened to prevent fastener drops. REDLINK PLUS Intelligence ensures maximum performance, protecting the tool against overloads, over-heating, and over-discharge. The M18 REDLITHIUM battery pack (not included) fits M18 tools, delivering more work per charge and more work over the life of the pack.

I recently ordered and received the Milwaukee M18 FUEL GEN-2 18-Volt Lithium-Ion Brushless Cordless Mid Torque 1/2 in. Impact Wrench with Friction Ring Kit. I used the wrench today (01/17/21) to remove and replace lug nuts on one of our boat trailers that had a flat. I have a couple pneumatic torque wrenches and I can honestly say that the Milwaukee 18-Volt battery powered torque wrench works every bit as well. It has several features that really make it a great addition to my arsenal of tools. 1st, it has led work lights that perfectly illuminate the area you are working on. The 2nd feature I really like is the 35lb torque tightening feature which snugs lug nuts (or whatever your working on) but doesn’t overtighten like my pneumatic wrench does. I like to finish the job off with a star lug or a pre-set torque device. The 3rd feature that is nice is that you are not tied to an air hose and compressor. The battery powered unit is more than enough to get the job done. In summary, this is just an exceptional tool that should last for years as Milwaukee is known for their workmanship. I will always keep this tool in my truck. It will certainly make quick work of almost any tire change. I highly recommend this tool. I have included a few pictures below.

Excellent balance of size and capacity, does 90% of what you need a 1/2″ impact for without excessive weight.

I really appreciate the smaller size of this mid-torque 1/2 impact wrench from Milwaukee. It packs a lot of power into this small frame. It weighs in at 3.5 pounds without the battery and 5.1 pounds with the included battery. There are four modes on this model: 1) 0-1250 RPM / 0-900 IPM / up to 350 ft-lbs torque; 2) 0-1950 RPM / 0-2100 IPM / up to 450 ft-lbs torque; 3) 0-2575 RPM / 0-3100 IPM / up to 550 ft-lbs forward and 650 reverse torque; 4) 0-2575 RPM / 0-3100 IPM / up to 35 ft-lbs forward and 650 reverse torque. Mode 4 is basically full power to remove nuts with a slow down once there is no resistance and uses limited power on install. As soon as it detects torque it stops. This is great when you are setting nuts and want to hand torque, etc. I tested on lug nuts of my Ford Expedition which were hand torqued to 150 ft-lbs. Mode 1 was unable to break the nuts free. Mode 2 had to hammer at the nuts for 20-30 seconds before they broke free. Modes 3 and 4 hammered for just a few seconds before breaking free. Testing mode 4 for install of the nuts the impact wrench performed exactly as expected and it stopped as soon as the nut met the rim and generated resistance. For me, mode 4 will likely be the state I leave the tool in most of the time. I prefer this model which uses the friction ring but there is another model with the pin detent if you so desire. This model does not support One Key. The three LEDs on the front do a decent job of lighting the work surface. There is also a rubber boot accessory available for this model that will protect the upper body from scratches as well as protecting your work surface. This particular kit includes the impact wrench, molded case, battery charger and two XC5.0 batteries

I received the Milwaukee M18 Fuel Gen-2 Mid-Torque Impact Wrench with friction ring. Kit part# 2962-22 The kit includes two 5AH Batteries M18-M12 battery charger and Hard carrying case. I also have the Milwaukee M18 Fuel Gen-1 Impact it works great also. But the new Gen-2 in more compact front to back makes it easier to get into tight places like removing caliper mounting brackets. I also like that there are four modes in mode 4 it hits with up to 650 ft-lbs of break free, then slows down after fastener breaks free and when tightening in mode 4 it goes to about 35 lbs so you can use a torque wrench to set to torque. Mode 3 is full 650 ft-lbs off up to 550 fastening torque and RPM of 2575 and that will do the job for everything I have tried it on. I took the lugs off my older truck that I haven’t had off in years no problem at all, you could see a little dust from the rust on the threads when they lugs broke free.

This is a great tool. It is primarily designed for automotive and industrial use, but you can use it for pretty much anything. The unit we got is designed for ½ inch sockets but with an adapter it can also use the more common 3/8 inch sockets too. The great thing about an impact wrench is that in addition to turning clockwise or counter clockwise like an ordinary wrench, it also has a simultaneous “hammering” action, which is the secret to its incredible effectiveness loosening stuck, frozen, over-tightened or rusted bolts.

Small Size and weight but big power

Great to have higher torque in a small package. It’s size makes it easier to fit in tight places, and it has more torque than you would think for its size

Works very well, perfect for changing or rotating tires.

Absolutely surprised by the torque and power of this compact unit. I can see why it carries a premium price given the performance and build quality

This impact wrench is a game changer. Lite and really maneuverable. Can be used in a lot of places the big gun can’t. We use Milwaukee impacts and ratchets in our auto repair shop. They get a lot of use. Milwaukee really stands behind there tools. Thankful for them.
