The Milwaukee 1-5/8 in. Magnetic Drill delivers the fastest drilling and strongest hold on 1/4 in. steel in its class. It is 13 Amp motor delivers the fastest drilling w/ annular cutters or twist drill bits. Equipped with a 2-speed gear box the tool can be adjusted tool-free between annular cutters at 475 RPM and twist drill bits at 730 RPM. The permanent magnet base operates without electricity for continuous magnetic hold even during power interruption. Activating partial magnet mode with a 1/4 turn of the magnet nob allows for faster, easier hole alignment. This magnet technology makes the Milwaukee 1-5/8 in. Magnetic Drill better for vertical and overhead drilling applications than traditional electromagnetic models.

This is a tool that a welding, metal fabricating or engine shop will find useful. This magnetic drill press has a powerful 13 amp motor and utilizes strong permanent magnets that don’t require electricity. It can be attached to 1/4 in. and thicker steel for drilling or boring in almost any position without fear of falling if electric power is lost. This drill can use normal drill bits and annular cutting bits. It also has 2 speed ranges (475/730 RPM) for drilling and boring. It is a quality tool that exceeds performance expectations.

This Milwaukee mag drill has been great for me thus far. My primary reason for choosing this model, in addition to the fact that Milwaukee has always been known for the power, durability and longevity of their drills, was the permanent magnet base – no chances of having this 30lb drill fall from overhead use should power be cut somehow. The magnet provides 1600 lbs of clamping force when attached to 1/4″ steel. Easily engaged with a twist of the knob, which can be backed off slightly – partial magnet mode – to allow for precise positioning. Unit features a 13-amp motor and a 2-speed gear box – lower for annular cutters, and the higher for use with twist drills. The 3/4″ Weldon quick change arbor makes swapping annulars a breeze. Kit also includes a 1/2″ chuck for use with twist drills. The case has incorporated moldings to hold all included accessories, as well as 4 cutters. Great tool, highly recommended!

I have drilled 52 holes with it so far. All 3/4 inch balls. Love the quick connect 4 annular cutter. Magnet is awesome does not need electricity to be powered. Machine has plenty of torque just barely put any pressure on it and it cuts beautifully. Would definitely buy another one . It only took 20 seconds to drill one hole 3/8 thick plate

The Mag drill is used in an industrial environment, on heavy steel. Its a great drill and does exactly what it is supposed to do. The safety features are great.

I bought this to drill 7/8″ and 1″ holes in 1/4″ to 3/8″ thick tubing. My first experience with it has been good. I bought this one instead of the battery powered one because I was concerned that battery life would be really short. I bought this one over the cheaper model due to the magnet knob. Being able to set the magnet to just enough to hold it in place but still movable is great. This made getting it positioned correctly a lot easier than it would be with full magnet. I used it initially with the chuck and it had a little more slop than I’d like. I need to order some annular cutters with Weldon shanks. I think that will solve that issue. Plenty of power. I timed it and I could cut a 1″ hole through 1/4″ wall in about 30 seconds from the time I turned it on to the time it finished cutting.

This type of drill is used most often to drill large diameter holes in pipes, plate steel, storage tanks and that sort of thing. The base has a strong magnet used to fix the drill to the piece being worked on. The magnet is so strong it can be used in either horizontal or vertical positions. There is also a safety strap to fasten the drill down as well as the magnet. The magnetic pull is progressive and as the control knob is turned the magnetic force is increased. This feature allows the operator to set up the drill more easily. The included pilot pin helps to precisely position the drill bit in just the right place. This 30 lb drill has a built in carrying handle and it is comfortable to hold and maneuver when positioning the drill. Twisting the arbor opens the lock to allow the chuck to be fitted and removed. The three armed feed handle will fit on either side and attaches with the press of the center locking button. There is an LED light to illuminate the drilling area. Cutting fluid can be pumped into the drill via a pipe and bottle but, oddly, the plastic pipe is not included but the bottle is. The instruction book is a bit ambiguous on this point but Milwaukee does not advertise that a pipe is included. The manufacturer is very confident in this product and they offer a generous five year warranty.I didn’t have any plate steel to hand but I did have a piece of ½” thick cast iron and the video show me drilling this. There are two videos but you will have to visit my YouTube channel to see the other one. The drill has two speeds and the graphics at the speed selector show the faster speed for twist drill bits and the slower speed for annular drill bits. The whole kit packs into a custom made case with additional storage for drill bits and accessories.
