Like many others- the “tools” are outlasting the batteries- my “V”18 tools are in great shape, now a days- 99$ can buy you drill,battery plus charger! So I just couldn’t part with two great drills and a saw- so finding these OEM “V”-18 batteries was a hard choice to purchase – I’m hopefull to get at least 5 more years from my tools-

You already know this battery is for the old discontinued tools. The old tools are excellent but this battery not so great and unlike DeWalt that is interchangeable with the old and new 18V DeWalt tools, this will not fit the current Milwaukees.I have two of the NiCd 2.4 ah and two Li-Ion 3.0 ah . The 2.4 will outlast the 3.0 given the same conditions. I’ll bet you don’t know this. Plus the 3.0 will not hold a charge longer than 6 months while the 2.4 will. Further, even fully charged, the 3.0 will go completely dead when a drill bit or a cutting blade is locked up for a short time. The 2.4 will not do this. This is to protect the 3.0 and you could reset it by putting it back in the charger for a short time. Could be a PIA.I recommend this battery because you don’t really have much a choice for the old Milwaukee tools.

It’s sad I have a slightly older Milwaukee set includes flash light saws all hammer drill and drill driver, all the batteries are toast Milwaukee charges $119 just for one old style battery , I looked at the new drills and drivers and the batteries no longer connect in the same way forcing you to have old batteries rebuilt or pay $119 per old style that will not work in any of the new tools, they should have done a recall on the old tools and batteries or NOT CHANGE the style of the connector thanks allot Milwaukee I used to be a big fan… do whats right offer a trade in value or recall of the V-18 style batteries and tools! or atleast make batter cost normal!

keeping the old version of milwaukee cordless alive can be expensive. It may be more cost effective to jump to the new generation tools. but i just cant stand letting a perfectly good base tool (in my case a cordless sawzall) go in the trash because the old ni-cad batteries are dead. i have already purchased replacement ni-cad batteries in the past, so now i am paying the extra money ($88 vs $72) to get Li-ion. just as a comparison with my old batteries – it seems about the same. maybe the Li-ion is a little lighter, but no big difference in power or longevity. overall i am happy i am getting more use out of a cordless tool i bought about 10 years ago.

I had just hopped on to see how much it would cost me to replace my V18 batteries and stumbled across some bad reviews for what was actually a good product. I bought a 1/2 hammer drill and driver combo back in 2006 and used the kit professionally for 4 years before the batteries died. Actually the first kit I purchased, which only had the drill, I killed within a week but that was my own doing and Home Depot allowed me to exchange it for the combo kit no problem. As professional you have to know the limitations of your tools and how to maintain them. These early Lithium ion batteries were good work horses that needed to be treated with a little extra care. I built dozens of decks and lofts with my set and the only thing that will keep me from buying a replacement for my drill and driver is the fact that I can just get a new 1/2 hammer drill for a little bit more than it would cost to buy these things. Not to mention these things did weight quite a bit but that was to be expected.

I had problems with the original batteries that came with my Milwaukee set. They would always trip the overload when using the sawzall, no matter how light the load was. I finally replaced the batteries. The tools now work the way they always should have, and no overload in the batteries tripping. I would have given a higher rating but Milwaukee should have replaced those defective design batteries for free a long time ago. If you’ve had the overload tripping problem, the new batteries no longer have that problem. Too bad Milwaukee didn’t recall the other batteries instead of making us spend $250.. for new ones. I don’t think I’ll buy another Milwaukee cordless tool set.
