The Shockwave Lineman’s Impact Auger Bits are engineered to deliver cleaner, faster holes in wooden utility poles. They feature a single spur design, which scores the edge of the hole, creating a cleaner finish that allows bolts to slide through without resistance. The bits are coated with a Reinforced anti-friction PTFE coating for overall smoother drilling and easier removal of the bit from the pole. The aggressive feed screw and cutting edge pull the bit through the material while the optimized wide flute geometry quickly ejects the chips to clear the hole and reduce clogs, leading to overall faster drilling speeds.

Holy holes, Milwaukee! Boring is exciting with these slick drills! Leaves other drills in the sawdust….. I will need some big holes in my next project, but that job isn’t ripe yet. These bits are aimed at power/phone pole work. My pole does not need a hole, but I have some fat conifer stumps to practice on. Since this is a big bit I used a cordless holehog-type driver on the 300RPM gear. Took 27 seconds to put a hole through 15 inches of gnarly pine, wow! Eats it up and spits it out! A spade-bit would have been a long slow chew and lots of clogs. When I was younger we used augers and a hand-brace, hard to believe now. Attached picture is a bunch of holes all the way through a 15-inch trunk. Only took a few minutes. Afterwards the bit looked fresh as new. Not even pine-sap. That slick coating is great stuff. 15 inches in 27 seconds at 300RPM is almost exactly the pitch of the “Aggressive feed screw”, showing that it really bites-in and pulls-along. Indeed it needs hardly any force once started. I got this for electrical runs in an old house with thick sills. But it would be dandy for pole-barns, tree houses, decks and docks, boat moorings, all kinds of big wood work.Yes, it is expensive for small jobs. This is clearly aimed at workers who need long large holes quick, easy, clean, and reliable. Tip: when you have 15 inches of spiral in the wood, you probably can’t just pull it out against fiber friction. Put the drill in reverse, but watch out! With the long flute-angle it comes out much faster than it went in, less than a second. Blip the drill at low speed so you don’t get knocked over.

I used this beast of a drill bit to install outside outlets for a friend. Went through everything like butter. I didn’t use the matching 5/8 shockwave quick attachment device. I used it just like any other drill but in the M18 fuel drill. The black coating makes for an easier job getting through the material and the hole itself was cleaner. It has the pilot tip prevent wandering when first making your hole. The bit itself is intended for even more heavy duty purposes such as electrical work drilling through studs, poles etc. Like all other Milwaukee products it appears to be made to last and based on initial experiences so far it surely will.

Awesome drill bit sails through wood.Note: you need a 7/16” Hex chuck to drive this big boy. In order to attach this to my Milwaukee 1/2” impact wrench I got the Milwaukee 48-66-0061 Quick Change Chuck, 1/2” square to 7/16″ Hex adaptor.The drill bit comes packed in a strong transparent plastic tube which provides some protection when not being used.I ran this with a Milwaukee 1/2” impact driver with the coupler mentioned above. This combination allows holes to be drilled with ease! I was able to drill into pine wood going through 18” very fast. The end of the drill bit has a small auger that pulls the bit into the wood very well. I had to reverse the driver in order to disengage the bit. Once disengaged I was able to draw the bit out, as well as the wood chips, with the drill running in the normal direction.After drilling 7 out 8 holes, the drill bit showed no signs of wear at all. The coupling adaptor and the impact driver did get pretty hot though.An awesome drill bit and and impressive performance. This is a top quality item from design through manufacture and packaging.

Cuts well, not too quickly (in stack of pressure treated 6×6’s). Some of these auger bits are too agressive which makes it more difficult to control the path.

I was making a nautical themed fence using 6″ x 6″ Douglas Fir pressure treated wood stock for posts & 1″ diameter marine rope. I inserted this Milwaukee 1-1/8″ x 24″ shockwave lineman’s impact auger bit into an M18 Milwaukee super hawg right angle drill. I marked & counter sunk the spot I was going to drill. I attached the extension handle onto the drill body & selected the low speed setting. I pulled the trigger & in seconds, this auger bit cut a hole through the 6″ x 6″ wood stock, like a hot knife through butter! The single spur, on the bit’s leading edge, scored the edge of the hole, leaving a clean cut, without a splintered edge. The PTFE anti-friction coating, prevented the bit from binding. I didn’t have to push the auger bit into the wood stock, as the feed screw drew the bit into the wood. The wide flute ejected the wood cuttings, to also prevent binding. This is a very heavy duty, top quality, professional auger bit.

Quick, fast, and in a hurry. This lineman’s bit augers through 2 x 4’s in seconds leaving a nice clean hole. The 2 foot length allows you to reach deep and the auger runs all the way up, clearing chips as it goes. I use it for running low voltage electrical cable and the 5/8” diameter hole is perfect for running multiple cat 6. The bit comes in a screw on plastic tube that hold the bit securely and protects it from being banged around in the truck. Well pleased with it.

This is the beast! Forget what theologians say. If you have a difficult task that requires a super drill, these shockwave’s are it. I used mine to drill out 4×4″ posts from existing 2-ft deep foundations so I could reuse them (they were set using a laser line, so I knew they were straight. I wish I could post a picture here. I’ve restored 48-ft of stockade fence thanks to this drill.Just as a test, I drilled through a large fallen tree, and this drill went right through. Two caveats though: 1) You need a strong drill, and 2) If the drill binds in a knot or something else, you could hurt your wrist, so use two hands.
