Hard to slide blade out
Isabella Blick (verified owner) –
The most ergonomic utility knife I’ve owned. The blade extension and release buttons also work fantastic unlike other knives.

It was just what I needed. It’s struggles a little to come out and retract. But it get the job done

Nice feel to this knife it was a little hard to get use to the retraction of the blade but overall a nice tool. Easy change blade option is also a nice feature

Does its job!A little difficult/awkward to retract the blade though

Slide out could work a little easier, over all works good.

Only part not particularly excited about is the continual need to push button in to extend knife all the way out.

Nice knife, as expected from Milwaukee

Awesome knife. If you use it everyday it will break in and be smooth in a few weeks. The only issue is changing the blade. Very difficult to get in and you have to pay attention to which side of the carrier you slide it into. Fits in hand nice but don’t buy if you’re a southpaw.

Much easier to open and close blade than standard box cutter

Great slide-knife. Sturdy! Comfortable. No tool needed to change blade. Side-slide works great but never by accident. All metal body held together by screws. Dent for your forefinger and cushy grip for your small fingers give great grip. Side-slide button doesn’t get hit by accident when you bear down on your cut. Bright red color is easy to spot when you misplace or drop it. Typical brilliant Milwaukee engineering. Blade release button is not explained. Put the side-slide to the last click. Press small button, pull blade out. There is space inside for spare blades (not included).

Of all the Utility knives i have owned i have had a few to take apart to put a new blade in them and cannot put all the pieces back together. With this new Milwaukee knife its much easier to switch the blade that are right inside.

The Milwaukee model 48-22-1510 utility knife uses the usual utility knife blades and offers storage in the handle for 5 spare blades (see photo). I should note that no spare blades actually come with the knife; there’s one loaded in the slide but no spares in the handle.Fit and finish are good, although I have had to “break in” the slide button a bit; it was pretty stiff in operation the first few times I used it. When the blade is at its furthest extension there’s a small release button (see photo) that allows you to pull the blade out of the knife. A replacement is made simply by inserting a new blade and releasing the button. It took a couple of practice runs for me to get the blade replacement procedure down correctly (you’ll want to be careful, obviously; these blades are quite sharp). No tools are needed to retrieve the spare blades from the handle, so swapping blades is tool free. There is just a tad of play in the knife blade – not enough to cause problems but it’s there. I’ve noticed this with other brands – the only utility knife I’ve had that completely locked the blade in place was one that bolted the two sides of the housing together and didn’t offer retractable storage for the blade. It wasn’t all that safe, but it was solid.Although the 1510 has a metal body there’s a rubber grip that keeps the knife under control even with cold hands. Working with this knife, I’ve found it to be much handier to use than my old all “metal / housing screw together” utility knife. Blade changes are faster and it’s more comfortable to hold.I pretty much use the 1510 for cutting up boxes, cutting shipping twine, and opening the plastic ‘clam shell’ packages that most small stuff comes packed in these days. I’ve not tried the blade on linoleum, marking hardwoods, etc., so I can’t comment on the knife’s suitability for those chores. Overall, it works as advertised (once the slide button is broken in), is competitively priced, and comes with a lifetime warranty. The only improvement I could suggest is that Milwaukee should include 5 spare blades in the handle. As it is, you’ll want to pick up a pack of spare blades if you don’t already have some in your kit.HTHRegards,Jim
