This is a great knife for splitting open sheathing on heavy duty wires. For me it’s a great knife to have in my gardening kit. The short blade makes quick work to open bags of mulch, fertilizer and seed. Easy to pop open bundles tied with cord. The knife has a very good sheath that pops into the handle when the knife is in use but holds firm on the knife when it’s being stored. Last but best, it’s really easy to sharpen. The blade is thick and the edge is at a 35 degree angle. Keeps the wedge shape sharp for tough jobs and easy to touch up when it gets a bit dull. This isn’t your grand pop’s carving knife. This is the ultimate utility blade.

Milwaukee makes great power tools and hand tools so I wanted to try out this linesman’s underground knife. The handle fit my large hand just perfect. The blade is sharp and appears to have a long life as I use it for stripping wires, opening boxes, removing corrosion from battery terminals, and for a little wood work. The knife is light and comes with a sheath. It is a nice product.

This knife is a beast! I have no fear in bearing down full force to cut anything. The blade is super thick and the handle becomes bigger at the end of the grip. This is not by any means a knife to use to cut back and forth with. This knife is meant to be pulled over material. I used it on some VCT tile for a small project. It cut very well. It worked much better than my utility knife. The cover stays put on the knife when not in use. I am not worried it will come off in my tool bag.

I have a bunch of utility knives in my shop and yet I keep grabbing this one for almost every project from splitting wires to cutting down boxes. It holds and edge and it’s easy to sharpen. The handle fits comfortably and it registers so it does not slide from side to side in my grip. The cap is well designed and fits in the butt of the handle when the knife is in use. A great tool for any workshop or for the field. It’s a Milwaukee.

The Lineman’s Underground Knife is a great product to have. It is very heavy duty and stylish to have. This is a must have for the pro’s and some DIY’ers. This is a great knife for the electricians. And anyone else who is working on larger than normal cable or wire. It is very well packaged. It will fit very well in any tool pouch. It has a blade guard that will not come off easily. So you will not cut yourself when reaching for it. I am glad that I have one. Milwaukee builds great tools. And they will last forever. If taken care of. Bigbil

This is a very sharp knife. I used it for cutting through carpeting that needed to be removed and it worked well. It takes a little getting used to the angle of it… although for other applications, it may be what you’re already used to. The handle is comfortable to grip and work with, and it’s a nice addition to our toolbox, when we need to cut something that is difficult with a regular razor knife.

It’s stout, sturdy and sharp. The long handle fits my large hands comfortably, and its tapered design makes pulling or oblique cutting action easy and secure, which makes sense considering its intended use. It comes with a small black plastic sheath to cover the blade while not-in-use. The back of the knife has a slot or “port” that securely holds that sheath when you are using the knife. That’s a neat idea since you DEFINITELY need a sheath to protect the blade and your hands. You don’t want to lose that sheath. They also designed a loop at the back of the handle that seems made for a lanyard or perhaps a small retainer-cord to hold the sheath. Yet oddly, there was no lanyard included; nor have I seen one in any of the promotional pictures. You could easily add that if you want, but I think it should be included. Another small gripe is the way that little sheath goes on and comes off. You can get it off one-handed by pressing your thumbs against the little lip on the back top side of the sheath. But because the sheath fits so snugly, it’s a two-handed operation to replace the sheath. You must place the sheath over the blade with one hand, while holding the knife with the other, then find some safe hard surface to press upon. You also need two hands to remove the sheath from its storage port. In lieu of some high-tech x-ray device ( which is do not have) I tested the internal length of the blade using magnets. I found the blade goes only half-way up the handle. Given the super tough polycarbonate material of the handle, that’s probably long enough to hold the blade securely for many years of use. However, they could have designed the sheath and sheath-storage more ergonomically so that the blade was as long as the handle, and / or included at least two rivets. That would make this a five star design.As-is, this is a good knife. I can recommend it to anyone who needs such a tough tool. However, I think it could be substantially improved for ease-of-use and long-term durability. A folding sheath with one-hand operation would be an improvement. That would negate the need for a lanyard to retain the sheath and remove that otherwise needless sheath-storage-port. Making the blade fit the entire length of the handle and using rivets would make sense too. Although I like this knife a lot, I get more done with a heavy-duty retractable snap-blade knife where one-handed operation greatly speeds all other tasks. As-is, I plan to repurpose this knife for marking dovetails and mortices where its size and sturdiness will make it beneficial.

I was excited to find this one-piece utility knife since I’m not a fan of most retractable utility knives. The blade is 1.5″ long. The hard plastic handle is 6″ long. The blade sheath snaps securely over the blade and stores in the back of the handle. The sharp pointed tip makes starting cuts easy. It cuts through NM-B electrical sheathing like it is butter. it comes with a limited lifetime warranty and is made in Taiwan.

I would recommend Milwaukee Lineman’s Underground Knife. The size, weight and shape make it a perfect tool for everyday needs in the shop or home. This knife will really last and stay sharper longer then other knives. There is a notch in the handle so that you could hang it on a tool belt or on a shop wall. Blade cover included helps to protect the blade from damage. 3″ in length. Great for splicing cable.
