The Milwaukee 18 in. Bolt Cutter with 1/4″ Maximum Cut Capacity is a pretty heavy duty tool. The handles are nice and comfortable and the cutters are solidly manufactured. There’s not slop in the joints and you have to put force to them to open and close them. These bolt cutters were easily able to cut through 1/4 inch bolts without leaving any indentations in the jaws, however, I did have trouble cutting through an old 1/4 inch diameter Master Lock padlock. I had to use a cheater bar on the handle to get enough leverage to get through it, but that could also be a testament to the padlock. This is a nice set of bolt cutters that are easy to carry around for small jobs but I would probably bump up to a longer-handle set next time around with a capacity larger than 1/4″, probably something in the 3/8 in to 7/16″ range.

The bolt cutter was recommended by the company where I bought deck railing. It will be used to cut the SS cable.

Good set of bolt cutters. Cut through a 1/4″ bolt no problem at all. I next tried a 1/2″ galvanized lag bolt. No matter how hard I tried I could not cut the bolt. Keep in mind that 1/2″ is the upper limit. The larger the item the softer the metal needs to be. Someone with a little more strength might have made it…I received these MILWAUKEE 30 IN. BOLT CUTTER WITH 1/2 IN. MAX CUT CAPACITY for free to write this review.

Cuts through cattle or “livestock” panels like butter! I wondered how hard it would be for me, a 30-something woman, to use. I tried this out on a screw first. No issues whatsoever!

Solid set of bolt cutters. These things are more than adequate for cutting most bolts and locks etc. I had a set of these that I needed to replace from when I worked at a boat rental storage facility. We would need to cut chain and locks all the time and this will certainly handle everything we need. Its smooth to operate and has a wide jaw. I would think this will last us for quite some time.

Very solid. Unquestionably heavy duty. The largest bold I have cut so far is a 5/8 inch, and while it wasn’t like cutting butter as it took some force, it wasn’t hard either. The cut was clean with almost no burring or ragged edges. Thus far the forged steel blades show no signs of wear or nicks. Have not had occasion to use the adjustment yet but I imagine that it would not be an issue. Note that while it states 1/2 in max cut capacity, that is for soft metals only (bolts, chain, wire) the max cut for hard materials (padlocks hardened chain, rebar, etc.) is stated as being 3/8 inch.

This review is for the Milwaukee 18 inch bolt cutters. These bolt cutters feel very solid, and heavy. They are rated for up to 1/4 inch hardened steel, or 3/8″ softer metals. They are made of forged steel, and have several adjustments that you can make. The first adjustment is the stop screw which can move in or out. The second adjustment is for the jaw gap. I can’t personally see needing to adjust that gap, but it’s nice to know it’s there. The jaws look like they will fit any lock that I’d need to cut, and the grips are comfortable. At 18 inches, you may need to exert some pressure to cut 1/4 inch hardened steel, but it’s nice to know I have a tool that can do that job.I ordered these online, for delivery at home. It was packaged well, and arrived on time.

I ordered and received my Milwaukee 18 in. bolt cutters about a month ago. This is a tool that I won’t be using frequently, but when needed, it is handier than getting my grinding tool out and putting a metal cutting blade on it. As a test, I took a few ¼ “tapcon masonry screws and used them to see how my new cutter would work. With a minimal effort I was able to cut the screws with no problem. After cutting the screws I checked the hardened cutting jaws and there was no visible damage. In summary, the Milwaukee bolt cutters were able to cut through their stated maximum cut capacity (1/4”) with little effort and there was no visible damage. I have several Milwaukee tools at home that have always worked well for me and my new bolt cutters seem to be of the same high quality.

It appears to be able to handle most bolt cutting jobs. I received it for Christmas and look forward to putting it to use. The price was really good.

I have a 30-ft. long heavy duty chain, at my farm. I use it to pull fallen trees out of the creek. I had a solidly rusted quick link, with a 5/16″ diameter steel thickness, I wanted to remove. I used this SUPER HEAVY DUTY bolt cutter to remove it. I also had a heavily rusted 7/16″ dia. steel threaded bolt, that was attached to another coupler. I also cut off that bolt using this bolt cutter. Because the bolt was hardened steel, I had to lay one of the bolt cutter handles on the ground and push down on the other handle, to cut through the bolt. The bolt cutter’s steel blade cutting edges, were not marred, or damaged, in any way, after the cuts. The overall length, of the bolt cutter, is 31 1/8″. The 1 5/8″ length of the steel cutting blades, provided plenty of cutting surface. The long steel handles gave me lots of leverage for cutting. The ribbed, non-slip grips, at the ends of the handles, are 7 1/2″ long & comfortable to hold onto. The grips have 3/8″ dia. reinforced holes, near the ends of the handles, I found handy for hanging this heavy tool. The bolt lock did not loosen, was easy to access & adjust. This is a highest quality tool.

This is good for cutting wire shelving, had to put the oomph into it, not so sure for padlocks
