It was great but always remember it’s not the tool in the hand that makes quality work it’s the hand and the skill that makes quality work!

Milwaukee has produced a hammer that is versatile and ready for any job from demolition to framing. However, I find this hammer to be a perfect match for framing. This is evident with its large smooth face, the magnetic nail set, the vibration reduction handle along with the ideal weight of 20 oz. Additionally, the long handle is designed to not only provides additional leverage when removing nails or prying boards apart, but it gives ample room to keep your hands free from pinch points. The curved claw gives you the upper hand when pulling out nails. Great hammer and a welcome addition to anyone’s workshop.

Another excellent product from Milwaukee. The 20 oz curved claw hammer has many features. The hammer is ergonomically designed with the grip made of special material that reduces vibration. The hammer also has a magnetic nail set that is easy to use. I have used this hammer on many jobs and it has exceeded my expectations. The design of the claw makes it easy to pull stubborn nails.

The Milwaukee Smooth Faced 20oz claw hammer has exceeded my expectations! Not only is it superbly built, fits great in the hand and overall has a wonderful ergonomic design, but sets a nail and drives through hard wood better than any other heavy duty construction hammer I own. The specially designed rubber grip really does make nailing comfortable and the smooth and balanced head contributes to accurate driving placement, while the magnetic nail holder places all size nails perfectly for starting the task!

This Milwaukee hammer has a nice grip – not too soft, but enough to reduce some of the vibration and making it easier to grip. The design also reduces much of the ringing noise when striking hard surfaces. Not something that I thought that I would have even noticed, but it does make a difference. And after almost six decades swinging a hammer (OK, I probably didn’t pick up my first one until age 3) , I can let you know that I can tell the difference between this and the normal framing hammer from my wrist all the way to my rotator cuff, which has suffered from more than one surgery from working with tools. 20 ounce is a nice weight for a lot of work, and smooth face reduces the amount of damage on surfaces like siding and shingles. The magnetic nail holder is also a nice touch, and it seems well designed into the tool instead of an after-thought. This hammer is also well balanced, which also reduces fatigue and improves accuracy. This is destined to be my go-to hammer for almost everything but finish work.

This review is for the Milwaukee smooth faced claw hammer, model 48-22-9080.A while back I acquired the framing hammer version (Milwaukee model 9016) which I liked very much indeed, so when the chance came up to try out the smooth faced version I jumped at it. I should note that I’m a homeowner / DIY’er, not a pro tradesman. The rubberized grip (Milwaukee calls it a “ShockShield” grip) really works to minimize the impact felt by my hand and wrist. It offers a good grip even when my hands are wet, which sometimes happens when puttering about the yard. Unlike hammers with more rounded handles, the I-beam construction reduces any tendency for the hammer to “roll” in my hand; it just feels good to use.The 9080 offers no hole in the handle for hanging from pegboard; you’ll need to hang it using the hammer head, with the handle in the down position. It’s about 14 inches long and 5.5 inches wide across the claw head.Unlike the milled face of the framing hammer, this smooth faced hammer doesn’t tend to leave indentations on the work; it can be used for “surface” materials (whereas a framing hammer is used to knock up wood that is destined to be covered over). Of course, the claw is curved for nail removal, and has a curvature greater than the curvature found on the framing hammer. There’s no slot in the top of the head for mounting the handle, it’s all one piece, unlike my wooden hammers. That means there’s no ‘notch’ that can mar the work when removing a nail.Like the framing hammer, Milwaukee has designed in a magnetic nail set and it actually works. It, along with the I-beam design of the handle, is my favorite feature of this tool. You can mount a nail onto the hammer head and start tapping it into place using one hand – nice if you’re on a ladder! Pinpoint accuracy of the nail placement is up to the operator – my aim probably isn’t as good as some but still I can get “close enough” on most jobs to put the nail where I need it using the nail set.I like the Milwaukee 9080 claw hammer – it may be ‘overkill’ for the average DIY’er, but the Milwaukee just feels so “right” that I think it’s worth spending the money. I really didn’t understand the difference in hammers (between a generic DIY wood handle vs. what a professional tradesman might use) until I got a chance to check out the Milwaukee line. The Milwaukee 9080 isn’t made in the U.S., but does offer a limited lifetime warranty along with the 90-day return policy from Home Depot.HTHRegards,Jim

Bought all three new editions of these hammers and you can tell a lot of R&D went into them. From the second gen grip shared from other hand tools to nail holders and frame design its a beast.

These Milwaukee hammers are the greatest. I have the 22 oz. and I use it as my primary hammer. The handle is comfortable to the grip and the anti-vibe works very well. I like the curve claw as an alternative to straight for hammering in tight spaces and it gives you more leverage when pulling nails. The hammer is well built and also has a lifetime warranty. Surely an all win buy. highly recommend this product.

I received the 20 ounce curved claw, smooth faced hammer to test for Home Depot and was very pleased with the results. I personally prefer a straight claw, but still liked this hammer. It has a good weight and very comfortable grip. At 20 ounces, it was heavy enough to get the job done, without seeming too heavy to use all day long. This is a hammer that will please the weekend warrior as well as the professional.

Milwaukee tools have been my favorites of late, and this 20 ounce curved claw smooth face hammer is no exception. The size is good, and the weight distribution makes it less fatiguing than other hammers. The anti-vibration handle really does reduce the shock transferred to the operator. This is a great hammer that should be in your toolbox, or should be considered if you need to replace a hammer.
