This hammer is awesome! I have been using it to drive 16d framing nails, and it handles that job with ease. It definitely gives you an arm workout, but man, it drives the nails in just a couple swings. It has a nicely shaped handle that is very comfortable, and the “waffle” texture on the face makes it easy to drive the nails straight without worrying about bending them. There is also a magnetic nail holder that allows you to start a nail without risking damage to your fingers that would otherwise be holding the nail when you start it. I am very pleased with this hammer!

This Milwaukee Milled Face Framing Hammer is the first framing hammer I’ve owned that had a hickory handle rather than a fiberglass one. It is also my first hammer with a milled face. I give an enthusiastic thumbs-up for the handle, as well as the anti-ring claw on the head, and I give a somewhat less enthusiastic endorsement for the milled face. The hickory handle imparts less vibration to my hand when I strike a nail. I wear gloves when hammering for extended periods, so I don’t need a cushioned or rubber-grip handle. Some of the reduced vibration could be due to the anti-ring design of the claw portion of the head, which is asymmetrically weighted. With a 19 oz head, the hammer is on the lighter side of framing hammers, but I haven’t noticed any lack of driving force even when hammering 16d nails. The milled face has a grid of pyramidal structures cut into its surface, making it look a little bit like a waffle iron. I haven’t done any toenailing with the hammer so I can’t speak to the effectiveness of the milled face at driving nails when they’re addressed at an angle. It does seem to help when I’m nailing left handed (I’m right handed) because I’m less likely to hit the nail head dead center. The milled face leaves a pretty noticeable pattern of dimples on the surface of the wood when the nail is hammered flush. You will definitely notice the dimples; this is by no means a finishing hammer. The hammer was assembled in China with components from the USA.

I was a little skeptical of having a wooden handled hammer but boy was I surprised. I can see how the hickory absorbs the shock as good as the high end hammers with the over mold grips like the estwing hammers. Quality is top notch its a Milwaukee product!!! One other huge benefit is the nail holder on the head of the hammer itself. It will prevent you from smashing your fingers when used correctly.

My partner in destruction, Alan, has yet to let me down and probably never will. With great balance and great polish for dynamic aesthetics looking sharp to the eye, I would take this hammer with me into a battlefield.

I have been a framer since i was 17 years old, I have used lots of different brands, but decided to give the miluakee a try. It is by far my favorite hammer I have owned, the head hasnt gotten loose in over two years of framing with the hammer, and 19 oz is a great weight, its plenty heavy to drive any nail easily, but its nice to not lug around a 24 oz husky all day. Lots of guys like hammers with rubber handles, but after about 3-6 months of swinging rubber handled hammers they start getting elbow pain. The hickory handle is great at absorbing shock, and has lasted well.

This may sound odd, but I have to say for a inexpensive hammer, this is actually quite lovely. Incredibly well crafted, and it feels fantastic gripped in your hand. No feeling like it might slip from your grip or anything like that. I appreciate the magnetic nail set for efficiency, and after doing some test swings on some wood beams I have laying around, I was surprised at how well the hickory handle absorbs the shock. I like it even better than fiber glass for that purpose now.

this is a top quality framing hammer just the right weight you can drive a sixteen penny nail with about 3 blows it makes easy work on framing up a wall the hickory handle is mounted to the head perfectly and will never come loose extra long for a powerful swing and leverage you need to pull out large spikes with ease. if you have a lot or little framing job this hammer is what you need easy on your arm too.

I really like the hammer. Great shape for excellent leverage and the weight is easy on the elbows after a day pounding on nails. Would be 5 star except the magnet that holds nail in place at top comes out with every use. I need to super glue it i guess. Other than that i recommends

This hammer packs a wallop to a two by four. At first I was concerned that the hammer would be too heavy for me but the hammer is well balanced. Because of the excellent balance I contact the nail head with every swing which is no easy task when you have neuropathy in your hands. The magnetic nail set also contributes to “hitting the nail on the head”. The hickory handle is almost pretty enough to use as a decoration. As you can tell I am well pleased with my new hammer.
