This is the new (I think it’s the 2nd generation) Milwaukee 25’ STUD magnetic tape measure (48-22-9725M). Photo 1 shows the back of the package. This newer tape measure is printed on both sides of the tape (the previous one was not), and boasts a 14’ standout. Like the previous one, Milwaukee claims the tape will survive an 80 foot drop (onto packed soil), and that the blade is the most rear-resistant in the industry—Milwaukee backs up their claims with a lifetime warranty.Other key features include large numbering, wire form belt clip, architectural scale (see Photo 2—it’s printed on the back of the ruler between the 10 and 22 inch markings), and a finger stop (see Photo 3) for controlling the blade while retracting. I put any new measuring devices I get through an accuracy test before I use them—tape measures must pass for both inside and outside measurements (in case I use the tape in my woodworking shop). This Milwaukee tape was right on the mark. The next concern for me is feel, i.e., how does the tape handle in everyday use? This 25 foot tape has a 1.3” wide blade, and because of its durability, the case is a bit on the bulky side, but it is a 25 foot tape. I couldn’t quite get the advertised 14 foot standout, I only managed about 11 feet (note that I didn’t take any points off for this—in my experience, it seems no tape measure actually gets the advertised standout). The magnet actually comes in handy. I happen to be working in a roughed-in basement when the tape arrived. Photo 4 shows the tape hanging by the magnet from a duct, not particularly useful, but interesting. Photo 5 shows taking a measurement from a duct, with the tape stuck with the magnet. This is a particularly useful scenario. It would also be great for electricians working with EMT. Where most tapes I’ve used in the past have a smooth, metal feel to the blade, the Milwaukee tape feels like it has a friction coating, which makes using the finger stop a breeze. Overall, I think this is a great tape measure for the professional.

is better than I expected

I really thought I had a good tape measure until I got this one. Such obvious but brilliant features on this great product. It refuses to break! Sat on my couch and was able to touch my 12′ ceiling. Much larger and easier to read numbers, and numbers reading vertical are great. The magnet on the tip holds on tight, so many jobs don’t need a second person to help measure.

A bit over priced seem like a nice tape though

After a solid two weeks of work; bending, quickly retracting, measuring through and around obstacles, over extending (accidentally of course)… it seems very durable and will have a longer life than other tape measures and other Milwaukee tape measures. Definitely a great choice!!

Best tape I’ve ever used, a lil fat but I like a chunky woman so I caint complain. Just means she’s sturdy.

Good lock and place to hold with your finger, magnet and it holds its weight farther than expected. Great product

This is a great tape with a couple features that I really like. The finger control cutout is nice to control the feed back of the tape with your finger. I love that there are graduations and numbers on both sides of the tape and the magnetic tip is helpful when you can find something it will stick to.

I love all my milwaukee tools, however the tape Dept has gone backwards since 2012. That was the last tape I had that did 11ft standout AND didn’t twist when using it throughout a project day. I’d rather have less standout and a more ridgid tape that isn’t flimsy when using to measure anything but a straight reach. Like measuring soffit trim from a ladder or across a few sheets of siding.

Milwaukee engineers another stellar product to make jobs easier. The measuring tape is by far one of the best that I’ve used. Its definitely my go to and has quickly become my favorite. The best part of this tape for me is the large numbers and clear markings. The size of tape allows for clear and precise markings that make it easier to read. With my eyes I need all the help I can get and Milwaukee did me a solid on this one. The magnetic tip also comes in way handy when dealing with aluminum. It locks on hard and sturdy and wont fall off as easily as you’d think. The tape measure is perfect for my “Do It Yourself” projects at home! I highly recommend it.

This is my umpteenth one of these. I like em. Just wish they would’ve stayed with the steel bar on the bottom front it was great for marking metal before the cut!

The Milwaukee 25 ft. x 1.3″ Gen II STUD Magnetic Tape Measure with 17 ft. Reach is a great carpenters tape. It has been used for several weeks on various construction sites. Although it is on the larger side it fits comfortably in your hand. (We took some side-by-side photos of our 25′ 1.2″ Compact Wide Blade Tape for comparison.) It is heavy, but that is expected for a 1.3″ tape. The end of the tape has a catch hook on both the top and bottom and it catches on very well. The regular break works good, but the finger break on the underside of the tape is real bonus. Every tape should have one. There is a nice protective coating on the tape. The tape is on the wider side with easy to read numbers appearing on both the front and the back of the tape. It also has an architectural scale on the back side. Everything on the tape is laid out very well. Most important is that it is accurate. The magnet is pretty strong and will hold in place while outstretched pretty well. It was used to retrieve a nail dropped behind some studs. If you are a carpenter that keeps his tape in a pouch with nuts, screws, etc. you can expect to pull some out with your tape. But the clip on the back is a big upgrade from most tape clips. It slides easily on and off a pocket or belt. (See comparison photo.)As for the reach, we are finding it is breaking at 12′. Even so it is our resident carpenter’s new favorite tape.

I have several Milwaukee tapes and I like them all. They are well made and tough. The reason for 4 stars is because the retraction is not the best. Also, stand out is 12 feet at best.

This is abstemiously the best tape measure I ever used and owned. I had been buying those small baby tape measures which often breaks down and I have to buy another one. The only reason I wasn’t buying these kind of tapes I was thinking it is bulky but after using this one I was convinced that I was completely wrong. The sturdiness is amazing I can extend the tape so long before it just break from a point and fell on the floor. IT stays stiff and I can keep extending it until I reach the starting point. The magnet is so strong that I can leave it connected on the drop ceiling and doing my measures. The number are very easy to read and the best feature is the double side reading. Overall this is a premium quality, well made and very strong measuring tape.

My old tape measure needed replacement. As an “older” workman I found the markings easy to read and make my own marks from. The magnetic tip has just the right amount of magnetic force to keep it engaged when wanted but still manageable to work around other metallic objects that I want to avoid attaching to. The Reach is awesome. I can measure rough distances by myself without having to make intermediary marks or move my ladder in the process.

Everything about this tape measure is awesome. Only reason it gets 4 stars is cause it most certainly does not have a 17′ reach. 12′ at best
