Shorter bit makes it easier to drill holes between floor joists. Cuts a nice clean hole on entry side but will splinter the wood on exit side unless you also enter from exit side after puncturing the surface with the tip. When the bit starts to wear, the edge can be touched up with a file if you are careful with following the original angle.
