The MILWAUKEE M18 REDLITHIUM XC5.0 Starter Kit delivers up to 2.5X more runtime, 20% more power and 2X more recharges than standard lithium-ion batteries. The lithium-ion battery pack features superior pack construction, electronics and performance. The rechargeable battery also offers users 5.0 amp-hours of runtime. Each battery pack is durably built for heavy-duty use, runs cooler and performs in climates below 0°F/-18°C. This protection routes water away from the electronics and out of the battery pack, extends the battery’s run-time and life by minimizing heat and prevents pack failures from vibration or drops. Built-in REDLINK Intelligence protects the battery from overloads, preventing users from damaging their cordless power tools in heavy-duty situations, while the discharge protection prevents cell damage. An integrated temperature management system and individual cell monitoring help to maximize the battery’s life. In addition to the battery pack, the starter kit includes the M18 and M12 Battery Charger and a storage bag.

Overall the charger dose work. While I haven’t tried the 12v part the 18v part has trouble with battery insertion. I have to try a few times to insert the 18v battery onto it before it sees the battery and starts the charge. Not good for something that is brand new. Makes me question the quality of it and definitely how long it will last. So while I can get it to work for now I wonder how long this charger will work. i don’t recommend this charger, but what are the alternatives?

I purchased the Millwaukee 18V battery and charger combination. I brought it home, plugged it in to charge the batter. Initially everything seemed fine, the red charging light came on and I had about 25% charge on the battery to start with. A while later I went to check on it, all the lights were were out, no green light to indicate that the charge was complete. I checked the battery and it was only 50% charged, the charger had broken. I went on line and found out that this seems to be a common problem with the Rapid Charge units, I ready many comments about this problem, including here. I returned the unit the next day to Home Depot, and got a new one, this one seems to be fine, battery fully charged in a short period of time, green indicator light came on. I have mixed feelings about recommending this charger, it seems kind of hit or miss if the one you purchase has a problem, Milwaukee needs to address this issue, I expect better quality from them.

If you don’t have a whole lot of grinding, it works very good. Not as strong as a corded grinder, but it’s definitely great for light grinding without lugging our the cords on a job site
