Talk about a specialty tool! There seems to be only one use for this, and that is to drive a ground rod into the ground using an SDS-Plus capable hammer drill. I gave it Five Stars for the overall heavy steel construction. I don’t think this thing will break. So, I have a hammer drill capable of handling this, and I will be inserting an 8-foot long ground rod into the ground when I run electricity out to a couple of out buildings. If you’ve ever had to hammer a ground rod into the ground, you know how laborious that is. I’m all about labor saving devices. I confess that I haven’t used it yet. As long as my hammer drill is sufficiently powerful, this driver bit should do the job. If it doesn’t, a revision to my Five Star rating will ensue.

I had to install a couple of ground rods for a building I ran electrical service to. So much easier than trying to drive by hand. Just chuck up the ground rod driver in your SDS Plus drill and you are ready to go. Slip the drive over the ground rod and start hammering the rod into the ground. We live in an area where the ground is very rocky and it takes a couple of tries to find a spot where you can drive a ground rod in more than a couple of feet. While this is not going to drive a ground rod into ledge, it sure is a lot easier than trying to drive a rod in by hand especially when you might need to make multiple attempts. We also have some electric fence and will be installing more in the spring. This will be great for installing electric fence ground rods as well. Another simple but great product brought to you by Home Depot and Milwaukee that will truly make your life easier – well worth it!

Purchased the tool and used it to drive in Ground Rods for my electric system. It will depend on the soil at your home.your hammer drill and conditions as to how well it works. It had been raining so the first 5 feet went rather quickly. I had to bear down for the tool to get down to the last 12″.

This driver bit is made from forged steel and should last a lifetime. SDS Plus coupling mates right up to my cordless hammer drill, and is excellent for driving copper-clad steel ground rods in the field. Works for both 1/2 inch and 5/8 inch rods, it sure beats swinging a sledge hammer. Make sure you put the drill in hammer only (no rotary action) and your are set to go.

The Milwaukee SDS Plus ground rod driver worked just as it should. Super easy to drive two 8′ rods. To be fair, I was driving them in desert ground. So very few if any rocks to contend with. A bit pricey for one-time use. But definitely worth it. Would recommend.

I received the 5/8 in. Carbide SDS-Plus Ground Rod Driver for review. I really like this ground rod driver, It sure beats sledge hammering a 8 ft. ground rod into the ground by hand. I like that the overall length is 10 in. and made of high quality forged steel. I like that this tool makes short work of driving a 5/8 in. ground rod into place. Designed to work in hammer mode.

This ground rod driver bit is very well made of thick wall steel. It is one piece construction, no welds or other weak points to break. I have had issues driving 8 foot long, wiggling ground rods using a big hammer, and this tool should be a significant improvement. I will be using mine with my Milwaukee SDS plus hammer drill. The only question, is whether an SDS plus _drill_ has the impact power to overcome the occasional rock. I will find out in the spring !
