These bits can drill plastic, wood, non-ferrous metals and mild steel (not stainless steel or instrumental steel). This is typical for multi-purpose drill bits. Unlike my previous HSS bits, these stay sharp longer and do not break as often. I do not think I ever broke a bit larger than 5/64″, and even that happens rarely. I just keep a few extra bits of small sizes in case they break or get dull. For pilot holes, do not use 1/16″ bit if you do not have to. It is just too fragile, no matter of the manufacturer. Use 5/64″, at least.The plastic case this drill bit set comes with is not great, bits are hard to take out, and I find it too large. Let’s knock down one star for this. I use Huot metal box (drill index), and while it is not perfect either, I prefer it.Overall, these are great multi-purpose drill bits. I own two sets (one stays at home, one in the car). I also have select sizes of specialized drill bits (brad point for hardwood, cobalt for stainless steel, masonry, even solid carbide), but these bits are what I use most of the time.

Great bits for the price but unfortunately my home depot decided to stop carrying them. Every time depot has something good they decide to get rid of it. It’s very obvious that the people making these decisions are sitting behind a desk somewhere and have never done a day of manual labor in their entire lives. Instead of always worrying about what bits to get to save a couple cents worry about what customers want.

I’ve had a set of these drill bits for 4 years now. They are the best I’ve used hands down. I’ve drilled heavy ibeam, channel, truck chassis, stainless, spring steel, welded holes up and re-drilled the welded area, lent them to the apprentice, and all of which have been done at some stage with a Milwaukee fuel 18V cordless drill. Super stoked with this product. It’s all about how good you are with your trigger finger, how much weight to apply on the bit and how you sharpen the tip. I get pretty savage with these bits and they have lasted my punishment and the test of time.

I use these bits to drill holes in steel rifle barrels. They have held up very well and the tips are sharp enough to prevent the bit from “walking” off the target point; requiring only a light tap from an auto-punch. They were on sale when I purchased too, which was a bonus. I believe this bit set is an excellent value.

The bits themselves are adequate, but barely. Do not expect to drill metal with ANY hardness. The index is horrific. The bits are nearly welded in and either wear a Kevlar glove or buy massive amounts of BandAids when putting them back in.
