I needed to make 5/8” hole on 2” square tubing with 1/8” wall. Instead of buying an individual bit dir $20, i thiught thr stepping bit would add a variety of options for certain tasks. I was initially apprehensive about this bits ability to cut well using a hand drill. Thiugh i have only made 10 holes so far, i am extremely impressed with the speed, quality, and control of the cut. Highly recommend for 1/8” material and thinner.

I am using the step drill bit to ream copper and galvanized piping after they have been cut. The bit does not bind and cleanly removes all burrs from the pipe end. This is a huge time saver.

I was well pleased with the performance of the step bits overall . The larger of the two got dull about half way up forcing me to use the smaller to expand the pilot hole past that size but other than that , they work great . I’ve drilled about 20 5/8 holes in 1/2 steel so far with them and they are still cutting .
