Step drills are a great idea. These step drills from Milwaukee are even better!Drilling sheet metal is easy, they drill to your desired size, conveniently marked on the inner flute of the tool. and leave little or no burr.Aside from the size marking on the black oxide body there are three flats ground on the shank for a secure grip in your drill chuck, especially the keyless ones that might slip on a round shank.Drilling thicker materials is no problem, probably 1/8th” for a straight thru hole and thicker than that for if you can tolerate steps in the hole all the way to 7/8″ diameter. All in all a good buy and one that is well worth the money.

I used these drill bits the other day to drill out a broken center bolt on a leaf spring on a Mack CH Dump Truck with my cordless 12 volt drill. It performed flawlessly. On high speed, it quickly drilled out the bolt with ease and didn’t put much strain on the drill while completing the task at hand. I would highly recommend these drill bits to anyone who needs to drill through steel using a standard hand held drill.

This product comes with (2) double fluted step drill bits. These bits are designed to work with cordless drills so they should enable you to drill more holes per charge. I tested these bits on a bracket for a under cabinet trash can. I enlarged a small screw hole to about a 1/2″. The bit cut quickly and you could feel the bit jump down when you reached each new depth. I don’t do a lot of metal working but I could see these being a great tool if you are drilling a lot of metal objects.

These bits come in handy to make some larger holes without running back to drill case to get a larger bit. They work pretty well in most materials and I have established the best thickest I would use them in, but each step has 1/8 inch depth so if you must go deeper I would go get the larger bit to due the job as your hole will wider at the top if your depth is much larger than 1/8 inch in what you are drilling

Milwaukee 48-89-9234 #4 3/16” to 7/8” Step Drill – This step drill bt will drill a hole for trade size ½” conduit…I use step drill bits everyday drilling conduit holes in panels, junction boxes, pull boxes and frequently enlarging existing holes for larger conduit…Normally I drill holes for trade size conduit ½”, ¾” and 1”, larger holes are hole punched, so these step drill bits get a workout everyday…I have used various manufacture’s step drill bits, Milwaukee step drill bits have secure grip anti slip shanks with milled flats that are gripped by the drill chuck, they also have twin flutes which clean the hole and eject the chips faster, they have the hole sizes of each step etched into (2) sides of the step drill bit and they last longer than other step drill bits…
