The MILWAUKEE SHOCKWAVE Impact Duty #2 3/16 – 1/2″ Step Bits are engineered to deliver the most durable and fastest impact step bit hole drilling solution. The step drill bits are made in the USA with global materials and deliver best-in-class performance in impact drivers with the versatility to be used in drills. The hex shank has an optimized SHOCKZONE body providing the industrys most durable shank, reducing early shank breaks. A Titanium Aluminum Nitride (TiAlN) coating delivers 5x longer life, while the step drill bit’s Rapid Strike tip and dual spiral flute produce 2x faster holes. The 3/16 – 1/2″ step bit features 6 steps with laser engraving for a clear stop on size identification.

As a diehard Milwaukee tool fan I have to say I’m once again impressed by the quality Milwaukee puts into their products and engineering. This 6-step bit cuts through all kinds of materials, sheetmetal, PVC piping, copper, without hesitation. It’s self-starting tip doesn’t require a pilot. The 6 step diameters are engraved along the spiral flutes directly on the bit so you can stop at precisely the right depth for a specific diameter hole. When combined with the vertical directional force of an impact driver, this bit becomes a beast of force. Simply a great bit to keep in your tool bag at all times!

Milwaukee #2 shockwave stepbit. Another excellent stepbit made in USAFrom Milwaukee that I highly recommend. I have 3 step drill bits to review and I found all 3 sizesTo be a great addition to your toolbox. The #2 bores 6 sizes. 3/16” to 1/2”.Fast drilling is possible with the Max hole sizeIn sheet metal. As mentioned in my #1 reviewMilwaukee makes multiple sizes you can purchase. See pics below for closeup.

This Milwaukee step drill bit is a beast! I tested it on tin roofing material, PVC pipe, and different types of plastics. The cutting edge never gummed up from the softer materials and stayed as sharp as it was out of the box on the metal materials. It cut fast and sharp enough that I didn’t really get to test the “impact” capability of it; however, I have no doubt that it would be very capable of cutting through heavier materials between 3/16” – 1/2”.

Although these new Milwaukee Shockwave impact-duty step bits will work in a drill, they really shine when used in an impact driver, as they are specifically designed for.The beauty of using a step bit in an impact driver is that there is no noticeable rotational force on the body of the driver itself while drilling, and especially no rotational force to contend with in the event of a bind. Anyone that’s used a step bit knows that they can be quite grabby when stepping through each hole diameter, especially in thicker metals. No way you are using one in a standard drill one-handed, but you can absolutely do so with one in an impact, as seen in my attached video. In the video, I’m using the #4 bit to make a full 7/8″ hole (1/2″ knockout) in a 4″ square black cover, which is something like 1/8″ thick steel. As you can see, as far as step bits go, it is pretty effortless…Love these bits. Highly recommended!
