Love the hex shank…works great on impact guns. The split tip starts easy on initial holes.. great size too.

Although these new Milwaukee Shockwave impact-duty step bits will work in a drill, they really shine when used in an impact driver, as they are specifically designed for.The beauty of using a step bit in an impact driver is that there is no noticeable rotational force on the body of the driver itself while drilling, and especially no rotational force to contend with in the event of a bind. Anyone that’s used a step bit knows that they can be quite grabby when stepping through each hole diameter, especially in thicker metals. No way you are using one in a standard drill one-handed, but you can absolutely do so with one in an impact, as seen in my attached video. In the video, I’m using this #4 bit to make a full 7/8″ hole (1/2″ knockout) in a 4″ square black cover, which is something like 1/8″ thick steel. As you can see, as far as step bits go, it is pretty effortless…Love these bits. Highly recommended!

I anxiously awaited this newest drill from Milwaukee to see if it was going to be a durable replacement for my worn out name brand units. I’m a prototype and fabricating nerd and step drills are an indisputable item of necessity in my tool box. This unit has dual cutting flutes and quickly drills through everything I’ve encountered in stainless steels and aluminum. It hasn’t been overheated and so far hasn’t released it’s magic cutting edge smoke. I’ll have to update the review when I have a better idea of how long this one holds up.

You just can not beat the way this bit performs. I have been fabricating Steel close to twenty years now and I’m absolutely Blown Away by the performance of this bit. It’ll tear through defense plate like nobody’s business. over and over again hole after hole after hole without going dull. I have owned step bits many times before but the innovation of the spiral cut and the added hammering action from the impact driver just makes this cut like no other! I have never taken the time to give anything a review. I had to share this so others can experience just how efficiently an amazing this thing can pop holes through Steel. It blows the doors off of any other bit in existence and im not foolin’ Try it and watch how fast it becomes your favorite tool.

I wanted to drill a stainless steel boiler for my home brew projects. I tried using a hole saw and the result was rather not satisfied. the surface was kinda bending in. Using this step bit seems to be a more proper tool for the job. I got a clean cut and the area surround the hole looks great like the hole is from the factory. I don’t have other use for the bit yet, but being able to drill different sizes without changing the bits will definitely speed me up.
