Commercial quality step bits. I want to run cables in my soffit (security cameras). My requirement is a simple hole through the soffit at each corner of the house. I tested these bits on a simple metal jar top. The hole is perfect. No burs on the inside. I can select the appropriate bit to make the hole and run the cable through. I’m impressed, these are commercial quality bits.

So far so good! I really like that the 7/8” is 1/4” drive too! Perfect for my impact driver. The case is very good too. Hopefully these will last as long as my cobalt step bits.

There are times when having a stepped drill bit makes sense & other times when they don’t. Diving into this set, I found that the quality of the bits is GREAT and comes complete with a handy storage case to keep them together and safe from damage rolling around in your toolbox or bag. The shanks fit nicely into my drill/drivers. The titanium finish provides a long-lasting durability to the drills. Being that the step depths are fairly shallow, drilling through thick items leaves a “tapered” hole so the best use is through thin materials like sheet metals. Not a substitute for ordinary drill in all circumstances but well worth the investment for those drilling holes in thin metals. Plumbing, electrical, HVAC, general fabrication, etc…

These step bits go through sheet metal like a hot knife through butter. I haven’t had them for too long, so I can’t really speak to how well they’ll hold their edge, but out of the box they just chew through metal with no problem at all. On my drill press, they produce very smooth-edged, round holes. Each of the 1/16″ steps is very clearly marked, and their are gold bands at the 1/8″ steps so you don’t even need to mark the bit for you desired cuts as long as you’re paying adequate attention to what you’re doing.

*A quality trio of step drill bits* I had been wanting to replace my old/dull set of step bits for a while so when I saw these I jumped on them. Included are a #1, #2, and #4 bit and in general this assortment is fine for my needs. Like nearly every bit kit from Milwaukee they come in a red plastic case that stores everything away nice and compact. I always liked the grip of these cases and the bits set nicely in the plastic housing. Additionally there’s a threaded hole on the back of them for a belt clip attachment. The build quality of these bits are top notch and they are definitely made for commercial duty. The laser engraving is very clear, visible and accurate. The titanium nitride coating should allow for the set to last much longer and all 3 of the bits are plenty sharp. For my testing purposes I used both an impact driver and a regular drill. The majority of the holes I made were into 1/8th aluminum. With proper use I found it easy to make a very clean and accurate hole with no burs on either side of the material. Additionally, starting each hole was much easier than my previous bits. With an impact driver I was able to make holes incredibly fast. So fast that I had trouble with accuracy at times. I attribute this to inexperience. Likewise with a regular drill it was a bit slower though much easier on the accuracy/cleanliness end of the spectrum. While the black coating on these bits starts to wear fairly quick after some use all size indicators stay clearly visible and sharpness seems unaffected. Furthermore I did not notice a significant amount of heat generated by these bits. I would recommend this set of bits and found no faults in the product. They are very well made from the USA and I have a good feeling that they will last much longer than your standard/budget set of step bits. Value wise it’s going to be up to you to decide whether they are worth the premium but I will say that they are competitively priced. An HVAC guy for example, or just anyone that needs to go on a marathon of hole-making would do well with this set. Buy once, cry once is certainly applicable here.

These look to be commercial grade impact step bits. The case is very heavy duty and built to last. The steps are well marked, and you’ll notice that some of the bands are a different color (gold). The specs will tell you the sizes. I tested the #1 bit on a 2×4 and it blew through it the board. I fully expect this to be the last step bits I buy. I highly recommend this set.

The first time I saw a step bit was on the Orange County Chopper TV show. When the father and son weren’t fighting, they often used these type of bits for drilling different size holes quickly.and accurately. At first I thought they were gimmicky, but after using them I’ve changed my mind. My son and I installed a new sound system in his car. We had to run a power cable from the battery to the amplifier mounted in the trunk. In the old days, when drilling metal I’d start with a smaller bit and then progress to larger bits. These step bits change all that, we were able drill holes large enough to for the cable and protective grommets. I am happy with these bits.

I got this step drill set to make it east to have the right drill bits for my Milwaukee M18 Fuel impact driver. The impact driver does not take normal drill bits so I thought that having these hex shank step drills would keep me from having to buy and carry an entire set of hex shank drills. When I started using these bits I was amazed. Not only do they solve the above issue but they are the sharpest, fastest drilling bits I have ever used. I don’t know if it is the bits or using an impact driver or the combination but the time needed to drill a hole is literally a quarter of what I would expect with a normal twist drill. I haven’t yet used these bits on anything thicker that 1/8″ but at least for thin material they are great.

This is definitely a commercial quality step bit set. This 3 piece Shockwave Impact duty step bit kit is perfect for drilling larger sized holes in steel or a variety of other materials. I did my testing with 1/8 steel. These impact bits really do drill holes twice as fast! I drilled a variety of different sized holes with both an impact and regular drill. My favorite bit of the set is the #2 bit because the increments are further away and that alllows it to be used accurately with thicker material. I would recommend the impact for the larger sized holes as the drill did try to twist on me. After drilling multiple different sized holes in different materials, the bits never got hot or showed any signs of wear. You can feel the drill drop when you get to the next bigger increment on the steps bit and it seems that the larger the hole gets, the faster the drilling process goes. I foresee these step bits lasting a long time being made of titanium and that they seem to self cool themselves. Made in the USA

These Milwaukee Titanium Shockwave Impact Duty Step Drill Bits are extremely high quality bits. They are Dual Spiral Flute design for even cutting, and they are coated with Titanium Aluminum Nitride (TiAlN), which protects the drill from wear, and Milwaukee claims will make the drill bits last 5 times longer than uncoated drill bits. These bits are designed for the Professional who uses them on their job, and needs a step drill bit that will deliver a clean hole time after time, all day long, day after day. They cut holes in sheet metal quickly, smoothly and evenly, creating holes from 1/8th of an inch all the way up to 7/8ths of an inch. The set comes with three step drill bits:#1 has 13 steps in sizes from 1/8 to 1/2 inch in 1/32nds of an inch steps, Laser engraved size markings start at the 1/4 inch mark.#2 has 6 steps in sizes from 3/16 to 1/2 inch in 1/16ths of an inch steps.#4 has 12 steps in sizes from 3/16 – 7/8 inch in 1/16ths of an inch steps. Each drill bit has a 1/4 inch Hex shank for quick tool changes, and have what Milwaukee calls a SHOCKZONE body, this provides a very durable shank, reducing early shank breakage when used with an impact driver. Each bit is Laser engraved (See Photo), not just painted on print for most size steps (smaller diameter steps are not marked due to limited area from engraving). They also have solid stripes that are visible when drilling on each of the more standard size steps to help you prevent over drilling a step. These bits are designed to be used in a 1/4 inch Hex Impact Driver like the Milwaukee M18 FUEL 18-Volt Lithium-Ion Brushless Cordless 1/4 in. Hex Impact Driver. If you don’t have an impact driver, you could use them in any standard drill. The bits come in a sturdy Milwaukee Plastic case (See Photo) that holds the 3 step drills securely in place. The case even comes with a ¼-20 threaded metal insert (See Photo) on the back for attaching the case to a tool tether so you won’t have to worry about dropping the case while high up on a ladder. The only thing is, is that Milwaukee doesn’t make any tool tether connectors that screw into this insert. I called them to confirm this. These step drill bits are Made in the USA.
