Another great product from the people at Milwaukee. This set is labeled as a Electrician set I recently used this for putting in a metal gate and automatic opener for my driveway. The laser markings on the side are easy to see and the bits are very sharp. The strike tip makes it very easy and accurate to start holes. This set worked very nicely with my M18 impact driver.

These Titanium aluminium Electricians step bits by Milwaukee make short work drilling precise holes in sheet metal and electrical boxes. The steps are short and the bits are sharp so they save you time on the job sight. They do have a 1/4 inch quick release shaft and are impact rated for longevity and ease of use.You get three bits,a number #1 a number #4 and a number #9 in a nice compact case. The bits are well made and easy to read so you know exactly when to stop. They are another good product from Milwaukee.

A quality set of step bits designed for electricians. The three piece Milwaukee Titanium Shockwave Impact Duty Step Bit Kit features a standard hex shaft which can be used in a drill and an impact driver. The bits include #1 (1/8 to 1/2 inch), #4 (3/16 to 7/8 inch) and #9 (7/8 and 1-1/8 inch). The #1 and #4 bits have labeling on each step with the #1 steps being 1/32 apart and the #4 steps being 1/16 apart. The #9 bit only labels the 7/8 and the 1-1/8 inch steps as the bit is designed to quickly drill only those two sizes.I tested the #1 and #4 bits on 1/8 inch steel with a drill press. I did not need to center punch or pre-drill the hole. The bits started the hole easily and once they broke through the steel plate the steps cut through easily as well. With the #9 bit I drilled through thin aluminum using both a drill press and an impact driver. I found the bit worked really well with the impact driver which helped break through burring which would normally stop a regular drill.Cutting performance was similar with and without lubricants applied. While heat was generated as a result of friction while cutting the holes, I found the bits did not retain significant heat. I was able to handle them with my bare hands shortly after cutting.Absolutely worth the cost if you regularly drill holes with step bits.

I was doing some electrical work in my house and I needed to add a specific hole size to my panel box and I didn’t have the right size drill bit. So I bought the Milwaukee electricians impact step drill bit set. I was told these step bits would work much better than a regular drill bit and let me tell you he was right. The Milwaukee step bits cut through the panel box so fast it was like a hot knife through butter. I believe why it went so fast through the steel was the spiral fluted tip that is 2X faster than other bits and I used it in a impact driver. This set comes with 3 bit sizes #1 makes hole sizes from 1/8 – 1/2″ in. #4. 3/16 – 7/8″ in. and #9. 7/8 – 1-1/8″ in. This set makes a wide variety of whole sizes. Each bit comes laser engraved with hole sizes right on the bits so you know when to stop Drilling. I never seen that before on a drill bit. They worked out very well for me. You can use these bits on Steel, aluminum and PVC.I also liked the fact that you can use them in a drill & impact driver. These 3 bits are 3-5/8 in. Long and coated with Titanium Aluminum Nitride which will last 5X longer than other bits. The case that comes with the bits, organizes and holds the bits firmly and is a heavy-duty case.I will be using these bits on other projects too. Milwaukee makes the best products. I should have these bits for a long time. I have to rate these Milwaukee step bits at 5 stars because they are a premium quality bits.

There is no question that these step bits are spendy (all of the good ones are, and you get what you pay for), but if you want something that does the job and lasts, this set by Milwaukee (made in the USA) is the ticket. I got the electrician’s set because the #4 bit goes to 7/8” (for ½” conduit and fittings), while the #6 bit goes to 1 1/8” (for ¾” conduit and fittings), our most used sizes. The #1 bit is perfect for pilot holes (1/8”) all the way up to ½” to cover a wide range of common fasteners. These are my first Milwaukee step bits; they claim up to 5x life over non-coated bits. Time will tell. I have some name brand, high-end, non-coated bits that are still going strong.

Well worth the price of admissionAll three bits in this set cut incredibly well. All three punched holes through 0.025″ Aluminum without excessive burs or kickback. Other bits have required pilot holes and have left nasty burrs but not these. None of them required a pilot hole be drilled and the smallest did not require a center punch to drill through without wandering. The gold on black lettering is very easy to read and after using them the lettering is still legible. Also – the bits did not gall on the aluminum without using a lubricant (a common problem when drilling aluminum – where the aluminum seizes to the drill bit, covering the cutting edge and rendering it useless until removed). All in all – these bits were very impressive, cut incredibly well, seem to be very durable, and are rated for impact use (a hitachi impact was used for the drilling).

The Milwaukee Titanium SHOCKWAVE Impact Duty Step Bit Kit (3-Piece) just made my life much easier. My job requires me to frequently drill holes through metal of various makes and densities. I have always used a standard metal-rated drill bit. I was not familiar with a step bit until I saw this product and thought I would give it a try. What a major increase to my productivity. The SHOCKWAVE tears through metal way faster than my old standard bits, the Titanium Aluminum Nitride (TiAlN) coating keeps them sharp much longer, and having the ability to drill multiple sizes of holes with one bit saves a lot of time and hassle.Whether I drilling holes for electrical conduit or mounting hardware on a steel door, this is now my go-to bit. It may be cost prohibitive for the home-use DIYer but I highly recommend it for a tradesman.

Although Milwaukee lists the Titanium SHOCKWAVE Impact Duty Step Bit Kit as an electrical bit kit I have found tremendous success in the woodworking world. I have wanted a step bit kit as far back as I can remember and for some reason or another I just never filled that need. Finally, I came up with a specific need based on my current project. My son has been pestering me to make him and his wife a steampunk style coffee table. At the time I was not familiar with the steampunk genre, so after some research, I found out that has a style of design that combines historical elements with technical elements of an earlier time. It is SCI-FI based as in employing steam-powered machinery in a space-age timeframe. The examples I saw were very cool, combine the use of gears, springs, and levers in a contemporary fashion. After agreeing on a design with my son it was time to build. The design itself is fairly straightforward. Metal legs supporting a wood box with a glass lid. Inside the wooden box will be a series of wooden and metal gears arranged in such a way as to imitate a working simple machine. In as much as most of the components were of an original design, I would be making most of them myself. It’s difficult to find gears, springs, and levers of a specific size and style right off the self. The perfect tool for the job turned out to be the step bits. They allowed me to not only enlarge holes but make odd sized holes and create openings that I could custom cut and shape using the different size bits. The Titanium Aluminum Nitride (TiAlN) coating makes these bits almost indestructible. I’ve used them on wood and metal alike using both an impact driver and a drill press with no problems what so ever. I am amazed at the speed and ease at which the bits work. Whether in the impact driver or the drill press, very little effort is required. The use of these step drill bits in forming the gears and levers will greatly reduce the time required. In all, there will be 14 gears, 8 pulleys, and 3 levers. The prototypes I have made took almost half the amount of time than the ones not using the bits. These bits are so easy to use and are almost indestructible. I highly recommend these bits.

These Shockwave bits appear to be of excellent quality and durable. Of course, only a prolonged period of use will determine how durable they really are. They are very sharp and will cut through your work quickly if you let them. If you press too hard you’ll find your hole a couple sizes larger than you wanted. Unfortunately, my set of three bits arrived with only two bits in the package. The smallest one was missing, but I’m sure this was an infrequent event. I recommend these bits for any homeowner or shop owner who needs to bore holes in sheet steel. The steps are only about 1/8 inch or less which is plenty for most uses. Get some.

I’m an electrician who uses these bits almost daily. These thing rip through whatever steel you can put them against without dulling or slowing down. Crazy good performance that is worth every penny in time saved vs other bits.

Yes, they are expensive… but you get what you pay for – especially with metal drilling (what’s a GOOD set of cobalt bits run these days anyways?). I’ve had cheap step bits dull out with fewer uses than I have on these bits already, and they’re holding up fine. The hex shank is a godsend – I can snap these right into my impact with one hand. My old set was a round shank that had to be used in a drill and tightened before use. These plow right through everything I’ve put in front of them so far: electrical boxes, tube steel, a welding cart, etc. They really do cut FAST – it’s like using a spade bit in wood, chips go everywhere and you have a hole in seconds. A little pricey, but a set worth having if you make holes in metal regularly.

Excellent tools, very sharp so far, I’ve only used them a couple times, so I can’t speak for their longevity. I’m kinda scared to use them in my impact driver, might be too easy to break.

First thing First. I am impressed with Milwaukee and they keep on impressing me with the quality of all their tools and other products. These bits have worked out great for running air line through some metal studs and the chamfer is a nice added bonus with this. I will say the bits drilled like it was going tho butter so just need to take it slow and easy
