EXACT punches and dies provide innovative features that bring value for the contractor. The Heavy Duty accessories can punch holes in both mild and stainless steel material. Laser engraved crosshairs on the dies deliver the clearest alignment with pre-drawn crosshairs. Both the tooth geometry of the punches, and slug removal ports on the dies, provide optimal slug removal. Large size ID markings permit easy punch and die selection. EXACT punches and dies do not require spacer’s notches on the punches, which allows for a better grip during punch threading and de-threading.

I’m not an electrician but I do a fair amount of electrical and sheet metal work. I’m also a tool junky. A knockout set is one of those tools that a professional can’t live without and a handyman can always find a way to get the job done without one. But, as a person who takes pride in every job I tackle, I’ve learned that the best results are achieved when you use high quality tools specifically designed for the task at hand. I occasional need to cut holes in sheet metal larger than a ½ inch drill bit, or even a step bit, can handle. A while back I bought a knockout set from Harbor Freight but like most of their China tools its performance was less than ideal.Home Depot gave me the opportunity to use and review this Milwaukee knockout set. It includes the most used sizes from ½ inch up to 2 inches with a heavy duty ratchet all packed neatly in a very strong carry case. Even at first impression there’s no doubt that this is a professional quality set. The fit and finish on the punches and dies is excellent and the longer than standard ratcheting handle operates smoothly.I found a discrepancy between the box graphic, the instruction sheet and Milwaukee’s web page. The instruction sheet specifies “mild steel.” The box graphic says “mild steel” on the back and “both mild and stainless steel” on the front. Finally, the web page says “mild and stainless steel.” Also, the instruction sheet specifies “mild steel up to 10ga.” but no mention is made anywhere about the capacity for stainless. At this point I’m totally confused and unfortunately I don’t have any stainless steel sheet goods around to test it with. Maybe stainless steel is considered mild steel, I really don’t know, but the labeling is ambiguous at best. A call to Milwaukee customer service is next. The thickest sheet metal I had laying around was 12ga so I used this to perform my test. To punch a 2 inch hole requires a 7/8 inch pilot hole to pass the ¾ inch draw stud through. I used a step bit for this. Lubricate the draw stud, assemble the punch set through the hole and crank away. I prefer to use my ½ inch impact wrench but the ratcheting handle works well in tight spaces. The punches cut clean precise holes. You can probably live your entire life without owning this set but when the need arises it’s a great tool to have on hand.

Dies are beefier than either Greenlee or Kline’s similar set. And, the ratchet, no comparison! Instead of a laminated and riveted ratchet handle, Milwaukee’s is a solid casting with a Gear Wrench type head. The dies are also laser etched across the top and sides for easy alignment. By far the better product.

I got my first use of this knockout set by Milwaukee it was a great tool for punching holes in metal. In this case. I was working on restoration of a food trailer and had need to place a hole in side of a metal cabinet to run a cable. I set up the tool drilled pilot hole and Inserted the knockout bit and ratchet boltThen punched the hole with ease cut through it like knife though worm butter for clean round hole

This knockout set from Milwaukee is top quality. I have used it a lot and it has always worked awesome. It operates very smooth and the dies leave a minimal burr. The dies are holding up well being used mostly on mild steel. I have used the smaller dies with stainless steel a couple of times with no issues. I love the ratcheting wrench that comes with the set it has worked out good.
