This is the best wood hole cutting set I’ve seen. So much better than hole saws. The sizes are mostly for cutting holes for locks in doors. These will work for certain pipe hole sizes, etc. If you’re say doing a new apartment complex these bits will be so much faster than hole saws also. The set comes with a 6 inch extension, extra changeable center starting bits, Allen wrenches and a very nice case. It comes with great instructions including how to sharpen the bits if you use them a lot. Very impressive to me.

Milwaukee Selfeed High-Speed Steel Wood Boring Bit Set (4-Piece) is a contractor’s quality bit set that includes sizes: 1 3/8”, 1 1/2”, 2 1/8” and 2 9/16”. The bits are made of heat treated steel that can be resharpened and come with four replacement pilot bits, a 5 1/2” extension, as well as two allen wrenches. It works best with a heavy duty drill and I’d use an SDS drill with a chuck adapter, especially for all but the smallest size. For drilling studs they are fast, don’t jam the way other large size bits can as with using hole saw kits. Any of the bits is is up to a full day’s work. Its the way to go if you have a lot of holes to drill.

I will say that spade wood bits and hole saws still have their place in the tool box, but if you want to save some time and muscle, these are a must. I used these while remodeling the bathroom. I chucked them in my 1/2” chuck cordless drill and held on tight. These will not fit in a 3/8” chuck as the hex shank is measured at 7/16”. It cut through 2×4 material in not time flat. The bit does all the work with the center self feed pilot screw. I would suggest that you do a test hole in some scrap if you have never used this type of boring bit before to get a feel of how it cuts. Hold on to your drill, the bit will not spin in the chuck if you hit a nail or knot in the wood due to the hex shank. The bit leaves a nice clean hole with minimal splintering. These are professional grade and come in a pretty durable case. Included in this set are the common sizes for drain and supply lines as well as running electric lines. I did need the extension for one of the holes. It gives you about 5” of added length and has one set screw to hold the bit into the extension. The bits are hardened steel, black oxide coated and are marked in both metric and SAE sizes. You get 4 extra centering screws and a few extra Allen wrench’s with the set. I haven’t had to sharpen them, but the included instructions explain the sharpening process. I can’t wait to use them in the drill press and vertical mill! Great set by Milwaukee. These are made in China for Milwaukee.

MAKES A CLEAN HOLE— The Milwaukee Selfeed High-Speed Steel Wood Boring Bit Set (4-Piece) has the more common bit sizes for making large deep holes where a hole saw would not work. The bits included in this set are 1 3/8″, 1 ½”, 2 1/8″, and 2 9/16″. The 1 3/8″ bit made a clean hole without any breakout but requires a powerful drill. They are impact rated so they probably work best with an impact tool. I had to use my hammer drill to have sufficient power. The bits have quick-lok shanks. The set includes a 5 ½“ extension which has a quick-lok shank. It is secured with a single set screw. The extension may be used with other tools having a quick-lok shank. There are eight bits in this series but the case only has slots for seven. The other four bit sizes are 1″, 1 1/8″, 1 1/4″, and 1 3/4″. The 1-3/8″ bit that is included in this four bit set is NOT included in the seven piece set.

They work great! I used them with the Milwaukee Angle Drill 2027 and it was great.

This boring set is definitely professional grade and well made. This set includes four bits, 2 9/16″, 2 1/8″, 1 1/2″, and 1 3/8″ as well as a 5 1/2″ extension, and comes in a hard plastic case. Included in the box are 5 replacement feed screws and 3 allen wrenches used to replace them. These bits are able to be resharpened, with instructions also included. They drill very quickly and cleanly, with very little force once started. The feed screw does much of the work! In order to use these you will need either a impact driver or a good 1/2″ drill, as the shaft is 7/16″ hex and they require quite a bit of torque. This is definitely a great addition to your tool inventory when needing to bore larger holes through wood!

The self feed bits by Milwaukee are great. The worm or self feed tip bites very nicely into the wood and pulls the bit into the wood great. The do a great job of drilling the hole with out destroying the wood. Perfect bits to be doing rough in work for plumbing, electoral and low voltage wires. If you accidentally hit a nail while drilling the bit takes it like a champ and keeps on going. The storage case it comes in is great. No more tossing bits in the drill case or bag where they get banged up and dinged and shorten the life of the cutting edge. When they do get dull there are very easy to resharpen the bit and the worm type is very easy to change when need and the kit does come with some extra

Whoa nelly – You better get your big boy pants on for these. They’re like forstner bits but with a threaded center that pulls the bit into the material. I’ve used this on spade bits in the past and it does work well, but you better have good torque on your drill and hold on tight! While the bits are very sharp once you get into the higher diameters removing a lot of material, it’s a demanding task for both the tool and the operator. I would highly recommend if you have a side handle for your drill to use that as well. Once you’re dialed in these do make nice clean cuts, cleaner than spade bits in my opinion. I find hole saws a little easier to use, but you’re limited on depth, where these guys come with an extension so if you need to get through a top plate or 4×4, just chuck up and go to town. One thing I did come across was the set-screw in the threaded center section coming lose mid-hole. I admit I didn’t check them first, but fortunately I was using the drill-press so it was pretty drama-free even through it bound up.

The Milwaukee High-Speed Steel Wood Boring Bit Set is a high quality tool that performs as intended. It has 4 different boring sizes and an 5 1/2 inch extension in the set. The center feed screw allows you to get precise centering for your boring work. I found the holes bored to be very smooth and the boring into the wood to be very easy, The bits on the boring tool can be resharpened to keep a clean cut.

I have had the full version of this kit for years. They work amazingly well and have kept their edge with no need to sharpen them since I purchased them. It makes a clean hole and drives itself through the wood with the self feeding pilot bits very well. The extension is reliable and features double set screws to help keep the bits locked in place. This is the type of set you only have to buy once in your career.

Professional, very heavy duty set of 4 drill bits. Excellent quality. In addition to the 4 drill bits you also a 5-½” extension bar, four replacement center feed drills and three Allen wrenches to secure the extension to the bits and the drive threads to the bits. The four bits are:1-3/8” (35mm)1-1/2” (38mm)2-1/8” (54mm)2-9/16” (65mm)The sizes are marked on each bit in both units. The instructions also include information on how to sharpen the drill bits with a file.Note: you will need a 7/16” Hex chuck to drive these drill bits. In order to attach this to my Milwaukee 1/2” impact driver I got the Milwaukee 48-66-0061 Quick Change Chuck, 1/2” square to 7/16″ Hex adaptor. The center feed thread certainly pulls this through wood without much force being applied to the driver. I was able to drill holes through pine with my non-dominant (left) hand using a 1/2” impact driver. Of course, once the center thread comes through the other side, you have to apply some force. The waste material is removed from the hole very well by the chip remover. These bits work so well, it is actually fun to use them! See video. The four bits and their extension come in a handy red protective plastic case.Made in China

I recently got these and quickly put them to use on a job roughing in my bathroom. I used the 2-9/16″ bit with my cordless M18 drill. I was easily able to drill 4 holes into 2 x 6 studs to run a new drain for my bathroom sink. Included in the set are bits sized: 1-3/8″, 1-1/2″, 2-1/8″ and 2-9/16″. I also used the 1-3/8 to drill for some new hot and cold water lines to the sink. With the Cordless Drill and these bits it made the job quick and easy.
