This is a review of Milwaukee’s 49-22-4074 8 pc “Locksmith’s Bi-Metal Hole Saw kit.Plug depth on these are 1 5/8″ … not quite what you’d need for a 1 3/4″ exterior door but an 1/8” deeper than most hole saws. The kit includes: 6 saws; case; two madrels, each with pilot bit; allen wrench. The larger mandrel, for the four largest saws, is of the ‘pin set’ variety, i.e. locking pin collar in addition to the screw in on the mandrel for the two smaller saw.Let’s be honest, this is as much a ‘plumber’s kit’ as it is a ‘locksmith’s kit’.But the quality is there in these Big Red kits … just be sure you have the sizes you need for the job.

Another great product from the people at Milwaukee. This set comes with a nice assortment of hole saw sizes specifically for drilling out locksets in doors. The teeth on these provide a faster cutting speed with a clean cut. The heavy duty steel construction means they cut better, faster and longer and with a limited lifetime tooth break warranty you can’t go wrong. These are easy to use and hole saw changes are quick and easy. Comes with a nice case.

The hole saws are extremely sharp and handle typical pine and other soft to hard wood. Drilling through wood is a simple task assuming you use a powerful drill. The spades fit into standard drills and the hole saws have exit holes to allow debris to easily escape so that they don’t clog up as you drill. Everything about the set is worth the money. You get a compact carrying case to keep things together and you also have room for a couple extra hole saw bits.
