I think this is a great idea from Milwaukee. Being able to change the knife and feed screw will help these bits last longer and require less down time when the blade gets dull. The blades can either dull from use or they can get dull or damaged when they hit a nail or screw. If you’re on the job site you can quickly swap out the blade and put in a fresh one and get back to work. Replacement blades are very affordable.Comes with the most common sized self-feed bits plumbers would use for boring holes in framing for pipes whether rough-in on new construction or a remodel project.1-3/8″ bit for supply pipe. It looks like a lot of plumbers are using 1-3/8″ holes for all they’re supply lines then using plastic pex suspender grommet things (not sure exactly what they’re called) in the hole for both pex and copper supply pipes. Get a couple of Milwaukee’s Speed Feed Auger bits to pair with this if you want to drill smaller holes for 1/2″ and 3/4″ copper pipe. 3/4″ and 1″ respectively.1-1/2″ bit for 1″ and 1-1/4″ copper pipe as well as 1″ PVC. Don’t think this bit is as commonly used for plumbers unless they do a lot of copper hydronic heating work or sprinkler systems but it’s nice that it’s part of the kit for when needed.2-1/8″ bit for 1-1/4″ and 1-1/2″ PVC waste and vent pipes.2-9/16″ bit for 2″ PVC waste and vent pipes. These are kind of like forstner bits in that they shave away the wood instead of drilling out a plug like a hole saw. They’re faster to use because of that. No time wasted trying to poke out the plug. They have a self feed tip that pulls the bit into the wood making it very easy to make holes. The bits will fit in a standard chuck or in the quick change chuck in Milwaukee’s Super Hawg. Together with the M18 Super Hawg it’s a great combination. The M18 Hole Hawg specs say it’s not recommended to go above 2″ with self-feed bits.Comes in a nice hard case with a 5-1/2″ Extension with quick change tip, allen key and a set of replacement blades, feed screws and set screws.

I have a whole drawer of cheap, foreign-made sheet-metal hole saws for wood. Compared to these Switchblade Plumber’s Self-feed Bits by Milwaukee, those old ones are a sad joke! You get 1-3/8, 1-1/2, 2-1/8, and 2-9/16 inch bits. The bits are very heavily built and have replaceable blades, which in itself is a very sweet feature. The shanks are about 4 inches long, and in the kit you get an extension shank for drilling in deeper areas. These bits are listed as Plumber’s bits, but I can see electricians and HVAC people loving them too, as well as homeowners like myself who like to do their own work.I will be throwing those old cheap hole saws in the trash where they belong! Thanks Milwaukee, and Home Depot!

This kit is great for roughing in plumbing. It has the most needed sizes. The bits are aggressive, and cut well at low speed. This is just what you want when drilling with an angle-head drill or hole-hawg. They are a bit too aggressive for a single-speed straight brill, but are usable with a dual-speed one in slow speed and having a side handle.I like the idea of a replaceable cutter. You know you are going to hit a nail sooner or later. If you hit wrong, and break the cutter, you can be back up and drilling in less then 5 minutes. Replacement blades take up much less room then a spare bit. I haven’t hit enough nails to break a cutter yet, but the cutter seams to be holding up at least as well as the standard bit.I like the case. It looks like it may hold up for a while. While it does, my tool box will be a bit more organised. The extension is an added bonus. I am not sure how often it is going to get uses, but it does let you change bits quickly when it can be used.

I’ve had this set now for a couple months and I didn’t need to cut a large hole out yet, so I took a 2×10 piece of pine board and tried each of the blades out. I hooked them up to my 1/2″ drill and these blades cut through my board like butter, so super sharp and the holes were smooth. This spring I am going to finish my last bathroom and add a utility sink so expect these tools to be super useful. I am not a plumber but rather a DIY’er who enjoys quality tools. I have many Milwaukee tools and find them to be of outstanding quality all the way down to a simple screwdriver.
