For materials up to 1/2 in. these carbide tipped steel plate cutters produce fine, burr-free holes in a variety of materials. They are ideal for stainless steel, structural steel studs and electrical boxes. They can also improve your production in cast iron, brass, aluminum and other thin non-ferrous metals. The carbide tips stay sharper longer than high-speed steel or bi-metal cutters giving these cutters longer life. Lubrication during drilling extends the life of the carbide cutter. Milwaukee recommends the use of Hawg Wash cutting fluid for best results. Hawg Wash fluid is available in 16 ounce bottles (49-32-0081). One bottle makes 1-Gal. of lubricating solution. Arbors 49-57-0035 or 49-57-0037 are needed for these cutters.
- Lubrication extends carbide life
- For metals thicker than 1/4 in., lubrication is recommended
- Consists of 11/16 in., 13/16 in., 15/16 in. pilot and arbor
- Includes sturdy plastic carrying case

This drill bit set would be great for anyone doing hvac work, sheet metal work, or anything that you would obviously need to do larger diameter drilling without burning up tradition twist drill bits. I would be cautious with thicker materials over 1/4″. My use with these bits has been on anything from ducting to 3/16″ and I haven’t had a problem, so I wouldn’t see why you couldn’t do thicker material as long as a person is cautious as with any drill bit.

I have been happy with all of my Milwaukee tools and the Sheet Metal Hole Saw Cutter is no exception. They cut a wide range of materials with different thicknesses, up to 1/2 inch. The cutters are carbide tipped and create a clean cut hole. The kit includes a plastic box where you can store and protect your tool. The cutters attach to the pilot drill quickly and securely.

Admittedly, I’m a “Tool Junkie.” I love innovation and Milwaukee Tools seems to always be in the forefront of innovation. Every time I check their site I find something new I gotta’ have. This 7 piece carbide hole cutter set is my latest acquisition. Upon arrival I was pleasantly surprised to see “Made in Japan”The set ships with an arbor, two 2 in. pilot drill bits and 5 carbide tipped cutter heads but many more heads are available in sizes from 11/16 in. to 1-1/2 in. in 1/16 in. increments. Unlike most hole saws these heads attach to the include 3/8 in. arbor with a ball and detent, just a twist and a click to install. No tools needed and you’ll never again have to deal with a cutter head frozen to the arbor due to heat expansion. The arbor also holds an ejection spring to make slug removal much easier. The include multi-language instruction sheet is easy to read and understand and is well illustrated. My first project is to cut a burr-free hole in my stainless steel sink so I can add a hot water dispenser. Experience has taught me that my bi-metal hole saws are not up to the task so this kit is a welcomed addition to my tool arsenal. With proper use and cleaning the carbide tips should last a very long time and when they finally do become dull I see no reason why they can’t be sharpened. It’s important to never run the heads in reverse when they’re cutting or during removal from the material. Keep the cutters spinning clockwise and lift out of the work piece. This is a really heavy-duty cutting set for the professional or anyone seeking perfection. The set is by no means inexpensive but if you’re looking for the best, this is it.
