The Milwaukee BIG HAWG Steel Clean Wood Arbor with Pilot Bit is a solid product. I have a fair number of hole saws, so having a few extra arbors is always a nice thing. This one comes with a 3/8″ spade pilot bit, too. The arbor itself is like many others, using a pair of pins to lock the hole saw in place on the arbor. Its not my favorite design, but it works well enough. The arbor is held in pllace with a substantial lock nut. I definitely prefer this design to some other where the hole saw is just threaded onto the arbor and tightens with use, and then you can’t take the hole saw off again without a breaker bar. The only item I don’t like is the rubber washer / o-ring between the lock nut and the arbor. In my experience o-rings eventually wear, dry rot, or fail. It will still last for years, but eventually, after enough heat cycles, that’s the part that will need to be replaced.Pros: Easy to use, comes with a starter bit, heavy and solidly built.Cons: rubber ring will eventually need to be replaced.

This is a nice arbor. Seems to be built to old time Milwaukee quality. They have installed a O ring (see picture) between the nut to tighten down and locking nut to reduce vibration and seems to work, not sure how long will last but good idea. The wood pilot bit could be easily changed out to a steel bit. Another advantage it will work with other Milwaukee hole saws. Cuts into wood very quickly and with sharp point on included speed bit there was no walking.

I just received this clean wood arbor. It is intended for use with hole saws one-3/8 inch to 6 1/4 inch.I attached it to a large 4 1/4 inch hole saw I have, and the mechanism is very easy to use. I just used it finger tight. That was sufficient to hold this large hole saw firmly in place. I tried using it in OSB plywood, and it is might be expected it takes a firm grip to avoid having the drill twist right out of your hand. I used a corded half inch hammer drill set in drill mode. There’s really nothing more to say other than it’s an excellent, well made mechanism. The small 3/8 inch spade type drill bit engages the wood rapidly and cuts it easily. The packaging states that the bit geometry aids plug removal, and I assume that’s because it has tapered shoulders. That way the plug will not hang up on the drill bit. I had no problems removing the plug which was only a half inch thick. This arbor is made in China.

The Milwaukee Big Hawg Steel Clean Wood Arbor with Pilot Bit is a tool that has been designed and manufactured to last for years. When I removed the arbor assembly out of the packaging, I was surprised at the overall weight of just the assembly itself without a hole saw attached to it. In my opinion, that is a plus when it comes to tools that are being used for similar projects. Like one reviewer mentioned, I agree that a downside to this product is the o-ring. Most products that I’ve used in the past, from paintball markers to plumbing fixtures, the piece the seems to always be the first to fail is the o-ring. Mainly due to drying out which could be an issue with this product due to the heat that will be produced when using. The good news is that this product is a Milwaukee product and they do not let mediocre products leave their plant. I’ve always had great experiences with Milwaukee and expect nothing less from the Big Hawg.
