No issues using this hammer drill with a 1 1/2″ x 22″ drill bit into rock.

the convenience of using sds max drill bits on a cordless drill is so practical around the job site that most of the time it is the only drill needed at job site.

I was going to get an SDS Plus drill but decided to get this one instead. SDS Max. Works good. Did the job. Was having an issue with hammering. It would just drill. But once started it ate the concrete up. Either it was too hot or not warmed up etc. Not sure.

Little more heavier than a Makita grinder, but after a couple of weeks of heavy use on granite work it’s been working pretty good and solid.

I would recommend this for those seeking a heavy duty piece of equipment, for commercial construction, or anyone looking for a real workhorse. It comes in a nice locking case with rubber grip and hole for padlock. I love how the front handle adjusts so easily by twisting tight or loose. You can tighten it to any position you like. This is great for those awkward places. The bits come in and out with a pull of the quick disconnect. I recommend using the complimentary grease tube so your bits slip in an out with ease. There are obviously instructions, and their location in the case also makes for a great storage pocket. It is quite heavy if you’re not accustomed to large commercially-rated tools. However, for the power this baby puts out, it makes up for it. You won’t be standing there all day trying to get those holes drilled; I can promise you that. If you get the right bit, you’ll be able to go thru even the toughest concrete, not to even mention cinder-block (which only takes seconds to cut through). In fact, it’s so powerful you really have to watch out not to break the pieces you’re working with. If you apply too much pressure or select the hammer option (to the right), you may find yourself having to buy more materials. However, I’m sure that most people will be using this to drill into new or old concrete. Just like a household spray bottle, there are two options but four selections at the top. You have the rotary hammer to the left and the hammer/chisel option to the right, with the top and bottom being marked “0” for blank. Now, even tho they’re supposed to turn off, there is a clutch inside which you need to release by clicking the trigger for a few seconds. This will ensure safety, and prevent damage to a new work-piece or injury to a fellow workmate. I selected the top “0” and it fired before it turned off. The bottom “0” took a chip out of my concrete as I assumed it wouldn’t work and ran it really quick. Unfortunately there are no bits with this kit, since it is a bare tool. However, when you go to buy bits, MAKE SURE you get the SDS MAX, not the regular sds. These are approximately 3/4″ in diameter at the end (about twice as thick). When I bought my bits the first time, they were simply SDS, which are approximately 3/8″ in diameter at the end. The Max also has a different looking fitting, 5 grooves instead of 4, which makes it easy to tell apart. There are many attachments available which you can buy for your purposes. One of the best things this tool is good for is removing tile and mortar. If you find a long enough flat blade It’ll make for easy work, especially if kept sharp.

I make my living as a carpenter contractor and this tool made my day much easier. We handicap retrofit homes in new England, digging pier /rail holes in winter is a bear. I installed the clay spade and dug through 18 inches of solid frozen earth and then chipped away overpour and the side of a walkway to install railinks for the walkway 4 ft in the ground. Couldn’t have done without this tool
