I use this for chopping through concrete like butter. It’s an incredible hammer drill. It’s very reasonably weighted. It has a convenient adjustable side handle that allows for you to easily position and hold the tool safely to just about any location needed. The finger trigger is also very nicely formed into the handle at the rear. Once you lock the desired chisel or drill bit in place they never fall out during use. (Unlike other brands I have used) just be aware there are no bits included. The case for storage is very rugged and should last for years. I highly recommend this tool.

Wow, What a Tool! Milwaukee does make some of the BEST Tradesman Tools out there. This is One! Upon getting this I went to work demoing the small 2×3 concrete pad that was poured in a spot that just didn’t make any sense. With the paddle chisel this unit cut and crushed this concrete up like butter. This unit is Heavy Duty & the whole hand grip trigger is Awesome! Bits lock into chuck very easily & there are many to choose from depending on your project. This is not a Wimpy Wimpy Rotary Hammer, this thing is a BEAST! This is for the Tradesman or a DIYer who wants a Quality Tool!

This tool is a heavy duty commercial grade rotary hammer. You can use it to drill in concrete or block and use it as a chipping hammer with multiple different bits. This tool is fairly heavy at 23lbs but that weight can help when drill downwards. If you are drilling horizontally it can be a bit of a bear. All in all this is another great tool from milwaukee.

I can not praise the15 Amp 1-3/4 in. SDS-MAX Corded Combination Hammer with E-Clutch enough. I have had it for 1 week and put it to work right away. I drilled 11/4 inch holes for large bolts in my cement house foundation. I am also am using it for breaking rock on my mountain side to smooth out my walk way to the side of my home. I love the ease of chaining bits for the tool. It is a little heavy but it does not much pressure to drill or hammer drill. I would recommend this tool to anyone.

Powerful, heavy, commercial grade rotary hammer that is surprisingly well behaved. As other reviews have noted, this isn’t the sort of beast you want to try to hoist up to work overhead (or for very long horizontally), but if you need to drill anchor holes, break up concrete, etc., I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised at how quickly this does the job. I’ve only had it for a couple of weeks, but I’ve already used it to tear out a bunch of failing brick work on a below grade entryway that I’m starting to rehab, dig out and break up a couple of corner post footings from an abandoned fence on our lot, and drill a few anchor holes for a new stair railing on our concrete stoop. The tool still looks new. Features variable speed, the choice of hammer only or hammer with rotation, an anti-vibration system (helps, but you’re still going to get shaken up), and an e-clutch that stops the tool automatically if it senses that the bit has bound. Side handle is 360 deg. adjustable. Bottom line, a professional quality tool suitable for heavy all-day use. Comes with a nice molded case that can accommodate several of the SDS Max bits that fit it. Highly recommended.

Very impressive and serious tool, with all the rough, dirty and constant abuse resistance that a professional grade rating demands of it, built in. It has features that clearly meet the requirements for contractor job site performance and safety, including an extra-large “Deadman” safety power switch that requires a constant but relatively light hand grip or it shuts off instantly. There is a large and strong adjustable side handle for firm control, making it handy for both left and right handers, an extra-large trigger guard, the largest and easiest tool retainer mechanism I have ever seen on an electric tool of this considerable size, a large, beefy, clearly marked rotary style tool bit function switch and a glove friendly wheel type speed control, instead of the usual tiny slide switch that needs a bare hand to operate. All the operating controls are specifically designed to permit you to easily operate the tool while wearing gloves. This is a long list of really important safety feature for such a powerful tool. It comes with an exceptionally nice custom fit red storage/travel case, typical with Milwaukee tools, with the traditional white “Milwaukee” script logo molded in. Room is provided inside the case for safe separate tool storage and there is a realistic amount of room to easily store the generous sized and heavy power cord. There are large steel latches to secure the closed case, a heavy glove sized carry handle, necessary for the surprising weight of the tool, and it combines the toughness to protect the tool in the back of a service truck, while looking good and saving space on the shelf. I was surprised at how quiet and solid sounding the powerful motor runs, and it spins up to speed with conviction, the heavy gearing and power being obvious to the ear. Sweet! I gave it an initial test with a stack of solid three-inch-thick concrete pavers, which it split instantly, with no noticeable effort. It is designed and marketed primarily for the demanding concrete and building maintenance trades, but like a number of professional tools I have justified for myself over the years, It allows the ambitious homeowner or property manager to save some serious money on their occasional smaller projects, and returns the one time investment every time you put it to work. The tool draws 15 amps under load, so particularly on jobs where you have a longer run to line power or a generator, it is advisable to use a ten or twelve-gauge extension cord with it. Suitable extension cords and the wide variety of concrete bits this tool can handle, are available at Home Depot and other tool suppliers at very competitive prices. I am very impressed with the quality and performance.

This Combination hammer drill is loaded with practical features. All of them seem to be well thought out, easy to activate, and use. The quality is stunning, no unfinished mating areas, all screws, bolts, nuts are tighten.Be surprised, not the case always. The quality control is in place and adhered too. This is no slouch, a real drill. The instructions are well executed. Packed extremely well. …………

This SDS-MAX hammer drill is huge, and is great for drilling large vertical holes in concrete, or doing demolition work. If you need to break up concrete, or need to drill dozens of 1/2″ to 1 3/4″ vertical holes in slabs, this 22 pound 15 amp drill is a great option. This drill is a big, heavy beast, and is great for big jobs. However, if you need to drill holes smaller than 1/2″, need to drill horizontal holes, need to work in tight spaces, or need any precision, then a smaller model is probably a better choice.Note that this model uses the massive SDS-MAX bits with 18mm shank, and it is NOT compatible with the smaller SDS or SDS-Plus bits. You can purchase an SDS-MAX to SDS adapter, but be aware that this heavy drill can easily snap the smaller SDS / SDS-Plus bits when used in the adapter. (I learned the hard way)And while the SDS-MAX bits are heavy duty and large, the larger or longer bits can be pretty expensive, so definitely think about the bits you need, as they will be an investment. But during a recent trip to Home Depot, I saw that there were a lot of different Milwaukee SDS-MAX bits available–more than standard SDS or SDS-Plus–so it seems that SDS-MAX has become very popular. This model appears to be an upgrade to Milwaukee’s largest rotary hammer drill, with an increase to 15A, an increase of maximum bit size to 1-3/4″, the addition of the E-Clutch feature, and the addition of the variable speed control. This is a fantastic hammer drill that can easily handle big jobs.

This is a big boy toy/tool. First of all be advised this tool uses “sds max ” type bits. Yes you can by an adapter for spline-sds-sds+ to max, proceed with caution though. See the pic. that shows the diameter difference of an sds+ compared to sds max. This tool has a lot of features, check the HD page for this model # 5546-21, scroll down to “info and guides” and click use and care manual. This will give you a good idea of what this baby can do. Also use the included grease, they give it to you for a reason, think friction and heat. Don’t use water as a cooling mechanism, it will just gum things up, use a shop vac. if necessary and a mask with safety glasses. The max is heavy, 20+ lbs. which is nice when you are drilling down, or chipping, let the tool do the work, moderate force works best with Anti-Vibration System. All the features make this nice to use ,but it will wear you out. If you do have to use this with an extension cord, check the specs, long distant means a voltage drop, which could lead to motor failure. Clean and maintain this tool and will last for years. There is not much this tool can’t do. The only thing that surprised me was why they didn’t include the Depth Gauge Rod. Not a deal breaker though.

We use this drill to Core holes for conduit, drill and tap in ground rods, and chisel out concrete.Having a high power, affordable drill saves us hours of time on the job-site. It makes our job easier and paid for itself in the first week!

I do occasional drilling into masonry, mostly for installing Tapcons, and in the past have attempted to use a regular drill. I have learned over time that a hammer drill is really necessary to make drilling into concrete reasonable, and have long considered getting a hammer drill for these occasional applications. I also am in the early stages of planning a project to partially finish my unfinished basement, so I wanted to get a hammer drill that was of high quality and on the heavier duty side. This drill is top-notch for quality and durability. Note that this is a very large tool and rather heavy. I was concerned that this tool was going to be a beast when turned on: this certainly is not the case, as it is much quieter than I was expecting and extremely smooth to use. However, it did have a lot of power and makes drilling into concrete very easy when set to the hammer drill mode. There are also two other modes, including one that is for chiseling. I have not yet tried this feature (other than setting the tool to chisel to see how it acts), but it will come in handy as I am considering some exterior work that will involve chiseling concrete. Selecting these modes is very smooth and easy. Again pleasantly surprised that such a powerful tool runs so smoothly. The one major snag I had in starting with this tool was learning the difference between SDS, SDS-plus, and SDS-Max bits. I had SDS bits but it took me a while to figure out why I could not get these bits to fit: I later learned that these three bits are incompatible with one another. This was entirely my mistake, as I am used to the adjustable chucks on regular drills. Therefore, be sure that any bit you purchase for this tool is a SDS-MAX bit.I look forward to using this tool more. I’m really becoming a fan of Milwaukee tools, the quality is top-notch and they feel quite durable.

Wow! Believe anything you read about this fine rotary-hammer by Milwaukee…especially its size. This thing is huge, weighing in at a whopping 23.2 pounds. The plastic housing probably saves a lot of weight. The tool reminds me of the TE-60s and -72s I carried for years, with some serious improvements: the Advanced Vibration System and variable-speed. Another big improvement is the price point; this tool comes in at a fraction of the cost of Hilti and some others. This is probably a small thing, but I like that the cord is 16′ long, making the job easier because you often don’t need an extension cord. My first purchase after getting this was to buy the Bosch SDS-max to SDS-plus adapter (OMSID 203747306), which allows me to use all my SDS-plus bits with this tool, too. Time will tell how it holds up to hard use, but Milwaukee’s engineering and quality has not been degraded by the change of “country of origin”. I have many Milwaukee tools that I owned for over 40 years, and trust in them.

Capable, heavy-duty, thoughtfully designed, with Milwaukee’s reliably high quality! MAX refers to the bit-shank design (see photo to appreciate the difference). Bits are sold separately and easy to find with a simple SDS MAX search on the homedepot.com website. Also on the website >> Product Overview >> Info and Guides. Click on the link “Use and Care Manual” for clear guidance on safe use, detailed operation, extension cord selection, and versatility. We really appreciate the smart design, especially as it pertains to comfort, safety, and capabilities. Hard-sided carrying case is a plus transporting a 30-plus pound tool and accessories! Now, we’ve got some concrete to chip and the workhorse to do it!

I’ve been using SDS-Max rotary hammers for years and this Milwaukee 1-3/4 15A combination hammer is a dream to use. The 15A motor hits hard with 8.1 ft lbs of impact energy and drills easily through concrete with appropriate drill bits, and can be used to chip concrete and other similar type of cementitious materials. It drove three ground rods through clay soil easily with a ground rod driver just last week. I like how it has a variable speed dial, the e-clutch for safety and an antivibration system to protect the user against tool vibration especially during extended use. I can personally attest that long term chipping can leave your hands and arms feeling numb and terrible. AVS systems help reduce it. Overall this is a great standard-sized sds-max rotary hammer loaded with features for a wide variety of tasks. Whether you are drilling holes in concrete, chipping concrete, chiseling up flooring including tile and vinyl, digging hard clay with a spade, driving ground rods or other similar tasks, this is a highly professional tool for everyday use even in commercial settings. If you need it you won’t regret getting it.
