4-1/2 in. Small Angle Grinder w/ Shroud Paddle With Lock-OnA nice angle grinderBACKGROUND: I have 3 angle grinders from another manufacturer and use them often. The chance to do a comparison of the Milwaukee, and to get another angle grinder, was too good to pass up.FIT AND FINISH: I expected a high-quality product, and that’s what I got. Rugged is the best word to describe the overall feel and appearance. From the casing to the handle and blade guard everything looked like it was ready to hit the job site. The carry bag was a surprise and was big enough to put the grinder, extra wheels, and a few markers. The blade guard is adjustable using a locking tab mechanism which is a different design than my yellow and black grinders (more on that in a minute.)OPERATION: Fitting the guard and attaching a wheel was easy and quick. The blade guard detent system took some getting used to. I admit I’m not that big a fan of that system as it allows a more limited selection of positions that the friction ring on my other grinders. It’s not a show-stopper, but sometimes you want the blade guard at the 2:30 position, not the 2:00 or 4:00. The paddle switch is much easier to control than the on/off slide switch on my other grinders. I put a test piece of 1” angle on the work stand to make a radiused end and just used the grinding wheel to do the work. The grinder had more than enough power to take the pressure on the wheel without bogging down. SUMMARY: A very welcome addition to my corded tool collection. This will get a lot of use!PROS: Study,CONS: Blade guard positioning system limits adjustment of the guard.

I am replacing my cheap grinder with this Milwaukee grinder. First off it feels heavy duty and sturdy, good power, and the 4 1/2″ size fits the wheels I already have. This grinder came with a storage bag also, which was a very nice surprise. The handle is sturdy too and doesn’t feel like it will strip the threads like my old grinder did teh first time I used it.

This grinder kit comes with everything you need to begin your grinding project. The feature that is most important to me is the shroud that can be hooked up to a vacuum. When you grind concrete, the dust that is emitted is terrible and makes a big mess. Having this attachment will eliminate the noxious dust created and dispose of it safely. The dust shroud is designed to move with the contour and direction of your grinding project. Both shrouds lock on and off easily. The kit comes with a handsome carrying case as well.

This Milwaukee angle grinder is a perfect fit, the name Milwaukee is synonymous with quality. It came with a good carrying bag and all accessories needed to get started. I like the ease of changing discs, just hold the button and use the included wrench. It has the soft start feature which eliminates the torque you find with other brands. It also features the “LOCK ON” trigger. The trigger has to be tripped before starting to prevent accidental starting. Always approach the material to be ground or cut, at a 5-15 degree angle. Never start the grinder while contacting the material, it could cause the grinder to move and cause injury. The dust shield is a nice added feature, helps to eliminate dust from sanding, even has the removable front so you can sand vertically. This grinder is sturdy and will handle all normal jobs.

There’s a lot to like about this 4 1/2 inch grinder. It is solid in the hand and has a lot of power.I have a 6 inch grinder that I don’t use much because it is a pain to find disks for it in the local store. This one is easy and disks are everywhere. If you want to sand you will need to pickup a backing plate for it.It comes with a tool less grinding cover which works great,It is nice not to have to loosen a screw every time you want to adjust the cover. All you need to do is push the tab and adjust it where you want. The handle has a lock on switch to save on hand fatigue. It comes with one grinding disk, handle, grinding cover, wrench and a real nice tool bag to hold it all. With the 5 year warranty they stand behind their products.

As always, you can count on Milwaukee for quality tools. This new corded grinder with shroud keep that tradition alive.WHAT YOU GET:Included in the box is a gorgeous carrying case, 4 inch disc, removable side grab handle, standard metal shield and the shroud for dust and shavings with vacuum tube attachment capability.USE:This is a powerful grinder what will work great at home or in the shop. 11 amp motor and 12,000 rpm with a 4 1/2 inch disc size. Great for all around work. It even comes with your first grinding disc which is great. This model comes with a sweet surround for the grinding wheel to allow you to better contain the shavings, saving you from clean up time when done and saving your lungs. It meets OSHA requirements as well and has a connector for a the vac hose.It also shields the shop from flying sparks which of course has it’s benefits for obvious reasons.PADDLE SWITCH:I always prefer the paddle style grinders that allow greater control and safety with gloved hands compared to switch style models. You can lock the paddle on to reduce fatigue and release it with just a tap on the paddle again. OVERALL:No matter what you throw at this machine it just keeps going. I’d highly recommend it. I’ve never had a Milwaukee tool let me down. Their warranty is also top notch should it fail for some weird reason (I’ve never had a Milwaukee tool break on me, ever).

The motto on the box says it all “ONLY HEAVY DUTY”. This is much more than expected for a 4 1/2 sander/grinder. I have been using 4 1/2 grinders for years, cutting steel of all shapes and sizes, grinding down welds and even removing bolts or rivets that have been in too long to unbolt, and too tough to drill-out. This is the first electric grinder that can actually reach out to your work place even as much as 100 ft. from your power source. The only thing you need to be sure of is, that you can supply a full 11 amps of power to the tool. At first I thought it might have been a more coarse and firmer disk. I changed over the wheel to a standard 60 grit store purchased wheel from another manufacturer. Well Milwaukee out worked 3 grinders from other major manufacturers without even beginning to heat up. That was saying something since the ambient air temp was well past the triple digit mark. I now believe their motto it really is ‘ONLY HEAVY DUTY’, exactly what I needed.

Milwaukee hits another home run with this “Heavy Duty” grinder. I say heavy duty because that is what it is. Not a light weight item; nor for the timid. This grinder has side handle with right or left side application, paddle type trigger with off lock for safety as well as lock on (this model), easy disc lock for wheel change out, and a comfortable heavy duty action while operating unit.Comes with grinding wheel, wheel guard, screw on handle, brush vac. guard, and a nylon type carrying case with zipper.Unit comes with an outstanding easy understanding manual.Quality product!
