With support for data transfer rates of up to 3.8 Gbps, the MB8600 DOCSIS 3.1 Cable Modem from Motorola is capable of supporting a variety of bandwidth-intensive tasks such as online gaming, streaming multimedia content and more. Additionally, this Motorola modem supports the DOCSIS 3.1 cable standard along with Active Queue Management (AQM), which is designed to reduce network congestion and speed up online tasks such as page loads, gaming, video conferencing, and more. Setup is easy, and with built-in lightning and power-surge circuits, you have additional protection against power spikes which can harm your modem.
On the back of the MB8600 you will a single Gigabit Ethernet port making it easy to connect this modem to a router, computer, or other Ethernet enabled device. There are also three additional Ethernet ports that are hidden by a yellow cover. These three Ethernet ports are not for connecting multiple devices. The three masked Ethernet ports are for connecting to a router that can bond more than one Ethernet port to achieve speeds up to 1 Gb/s when supported by your cable service.

Received it June 8, 2018. Noticed lag issues in gaming Sat. Dec 5th 2020 (it is now the following Friday). The upload is utterly tanked. 1 to 6 Mbits. The download is down from 950 to 730 (sometimes only 450). Checked the firmware version and it’s 18.2.9 so, if I’m reading this correctly, Motorola hasn’t updated anything related to this for over 2 years ! Had a Cox tech test our lines, etc. then he took a look at the modem itself and he said it had gone bad. I liked it while it lasted but there is no excuse for equipment like this to fail after only 2 years. It’s as if they designed it to fail after the warranty expired.

It isn’t made clear that the 4 ethernet ports are not individual ports which can be use to connect multiple devices like one uses a router. So, I have three ethernet ports on my modem that I can’t use, for now, and still have to run my devices through my router. To sum up: Disappointed!

great modem — works well — setsup in a hurry — gobbles the incoming bytes — top of the line !

So, this is what I posted on Amazon (but I bought it here). 18% of Amazon reviewers complained about this product. You realize, that 18% of people could be idiots or dealt with an idiot at their cable company. As for myself, I called Spectrum to activate the modem. The idiot screwed up my MAC address and lied to me and told me everything was alright. Subsequently (3rd call to Spectrum), they tweaked the modem properly and I got a screaming 500 mbs on a 400 mbs service (hard wired to modem). Needless to say, I like the product.

I purchased this modem from B&H for a few reasons: North American manufacturer, security features, and speed and have not been disappointed. B&H arranged all the delivery and taxes of this product to Canada and arrived within 3 business days. Worked as it’s supposed to first time with no issues. Highly recommended.

You’ll need DOCSIS 3.1 for gigabit Comcast.

I purchased this modem because Comcast stated that I needed to update my modem to get the highest available speeds. I took it out of the box, plugged in cable and router, and it worked immediately.

I like this and it is tall and does not run hot. It is backwards compatible with my Docsis 3.0 cable company that is using old infrastructure. Delivered well packaged.

Works on Spectrum in LA. Had to call customer service at the cable company for them to reset the modem connection. It was plug n play.

Until I installed this one, I thought all modems performed equivalently. I was surprised to find a noticeable improvement in my LAN performance and, no, I have not yet made use of this modems advanced capabilities. It isnt cheap but is impressive.

Modem has great specs. Unfortunately it is not compatible with XFINITY Phone Service. They cannot activate the modem, due to some asinine policy if you have phone service on your plan. Even if you don’t use the phone and like me just have the service on your package to get a better price on cable and internet. The blame falls mostly on Comcast for the policy, but also on Motorola for marketing it as XFINITY compatible when that’s partially true.

Replaced an older Motorola … This model is very attractive and incredibly fast. Spent just 5 mins on the phone with Comcast to get it activated and am getting much faster speeds right out of the box! And B&H is the best place to buy.

I usually do not like writing negative reviews. However, I want to advise other potential buyers that they may have a problem with this particular modem. In my area, Xfinity is our service provider. Having recently upgraded my internet speed and after 5 years of using the same equipment, it was time to upgrade. I looked on the B&H site and saw that this modem was highly rated and very popular. I unboxed the unit and followed all the procedures for registering it with my service provider. The problems started right away. The modem would drop the connection to the provider after a few minutes on service. After resetting the model at least 10 times, I called Motorola support. The tech admitted that there was/is a problem with the modem and they sent a patch to each provider to fix the dropping of service. His comment to me was maybe I should return the modem and see it a new Motorola would work. If that did not work that it was the service providers problem. My thoughts are that the Motorola Tech support is worthless. I would hope that B&H advise customers when a product is known to have a defect to advise its, customers. My hat is off to those who have had success. If you are having a problem with this modem return it and get another brand. Again, it pains me to with this review – I hope it helps other buyers to beware.

I went away from Motorola for a few years. Their stuff kind of was blah. This unit – rocks it. Quick to connect, stable and forgiving. Xfinity services has been spotty during covid and with all the zoom session – ugh. The old unit would require reboots. This Motorola unit – excellent. Better speed and handling all my devices great.

This modem performs so well, it created problems I didn’t know I’d have. I replaced my old router, for instance, because it wasn’t keeping up and taking full advantage. I’m not used to this. I’ve never had internet so fast I had to look into clock speeds and data transfer rates of various routers, and this really is a good problem to have. The modem has been nothing but reliable and I feel confident that it will never be the bottleneck on my network for the foreseeable future.
