Design a sleek, small custom build PC with the MPG B550I Gaming Edge Max Wi-Fi AM4 Mini-ITX Motherboard from MSI. Ideal for the builder who wants to focus on gaming components, this mini-ITX form factor motherboard offers the utility of larger boards in a smaller package. Take advantage of fan or liquid cooling systems, wireless internet connectivity, and RGB headers for a unique and colorful style.
An AM4 socket and B550 chipset provide compatibility with various AMD Ryzen-brand processors. Two dual-channel DDR4 memory slots are available, as well as four SATA III ports and two M.2 slots for storage devices. A single PCIe 4.0/3.0 x16 slot is available for the installation of a graphics card. This Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) enabled motherboard gives you wireless access to your network, and Bluetooth 5.1 lets you connect wireless devices such as speakers and headsets for a cord-free experience. This motherboard is only compatible with Windows 10 (64-bit) operating systems.

Had to wait a while for it to arrive but hey, COVID screwed up a lot of stuff. Arrived packaged extremely well. Built a new system based on this mobo and a Ryzen 5 3600 in a NZXT H210 case. The HD Audio, Power/LED, etc connector are right above the PCI-Express graphics card slot. Make sure you bring your cables in from right side of mobo/above GPU, before putting GPU in. Plenty fan connectors and if you need, use a splitter. Everything went together easily and worked first POST. The one con, and many people know about it already, is the backside of mobo around the cpu socket. Many if not most aftermarket cooler brackets may not fit without a little creativity. I used a CoolerMaster Hyper 212 Black Edition and I had to modify the CoolerMaster backplate slightly. I used my dremel tool to make a couple minor cuts, then polished it up a bit and it works like a charm. That’s the only negative I have. I highly recommend the board. If you’re using a AIO water cooler, many will attach straight to the existing AMD mounts.

Solid motherboard, I adore the attached IO shield and no issues. Good layout for an ITX, no missing features, and the optical audio port is a plus. Only con is a very loud chipset/M.2 fan. Unplugged, the M.2 and chipset doesn’t get too hot with an SN550 M.2 and stock 5600X.

Much more quiet than the X570, pic-e Gen4 worked perfectly!

The board is overall really good and performs well where you’d hope to. Using this in a small form factor linux machine(inwin chopin case). I like it and I would give this 5/5, but several issues came about that I feel warrants taking off a star. CPU cooling solutions limited without additional support: On the back of the motherboard are two chips that will obstruct most backplates. If you’re trying to use something like a Noctua NH-L9a-AM4, you’ll need to contact support and have them ship special spacers to you so you can mount your cooler. This may come as a surprise to people(it was certainly a surprise for me), so I recommend looking up whether the cooler you have in mind is compatible with this motherboard or you if you need a solution(if one is available). Stock AMD coolers will work fine(clamp and screw) Wifi/bluetooth Antennas: The Antennas that come with the motherboard are just bad. I had to use an antenna that came with a different motherboard which had a stronger reception. So you may need an aftermarket PC wifi antenna to get a good signal. A redeeming aspect of the motherboard is how well the bios flash works. At first the system would not boot due to the bios version not being updated to detect and use a 5600G CPU. I did not need to put in a different CPU to get things up and running, just prepared a flash drive, followed the bios flash procedure and was up and running in no time. I would recommend this motherboard overall, but would advise caution and researching compatibility with what you’re planning to build with this.
