Until recently my two favorite matte rag papers were Hahnemulhe Photo Rag and Moab Entrada Fine Art Natural. I learned about this paper in the australian site ImageScience, I give it a try and I’m sold to it. Fine art prints are gorgeous with this paper, B&W or color, doesn’t matter.

Excellent and consistent quality. One of only two brands I ever use.

This is a superb paper for B&W prints. The ultra-smooth surface disappears revealing beautiful midtones and rich shadows. Sharpness and detail are excellent. Anyone who thinks that matte papers cannot equal glossy papers in sharpness is simply wrong. I use an Epson 3880 with ImagePrint driver and gray profile. I can honestly say that I am getting the best B&W prints of my life. I have not used Museo Portfolio Rag for color prints, because of a relatively narrow color gamut (ImagePrint profile again) and questions regarding print longevity, especially with the yellow ink. I do not think that should be much of an issue with grayscale prints.

This is without question, the best paper I have used to date for my black and white photographs. The image quality displays all of the nuances I want to deliver in my work. Well worth the money!

My favorite matte paper by a long measure, Moab Entrada similar but not as sturdy.

without reservation the most beautiful fine art color prints!

I have recently been testing Museo Portfolio Rag for fine art B&W prints, and I think it is probably the best paper that I have used for that purpose. The smooth surface essentially disappears leaving the viewer with a three dimensional appearing image with beautiful mid-tones and rich shadows. MPR is OBA free, and the base paper color is slightly warm, but less so than other OBA papers that I have tried. I should mention that I print with ImagePrint, which has superb profiles for this and other papers. I have not tried printing color images on MPR and probably will not use it for that purpose, as soft proofing with ImagePrint profiles suggests a rather narrow color gamut. Nevertheless, for matte B&W prints, which comprises most of my work, it is superb.

I purchased this paper based on my personal use of Museo in the past. The paper itself has a lovely silky texture on the surface and renders blacks beautifully. However, the box I received had a consistent flaw on every single sheet in the box, which I only noticed on printing on almost every sheet. About 2 inches from the top on the longest size was an indent in the paper, the full length, of about 2-3mm wide. The flaw was visible under fluro light and I made 8-10 snaps of the flaw and sent it to B&H. I also requested a full refund and was advised that I would have to return the whole box of prints. As a fine art photographer I would never provide prints of a full series of work to anyone except the gallery that represents my work. I pointed this out to B&H and was told in writing that I would be offered only a 25% refund if I didn’t send back the full box. This was negotiated to 50% in the end. It is deplorable that despite my providing evidence of the flaw which is present on every single page, the only way to receive a refund was to send original artworks to B&H. I won’t be buying this paper again and where possible will shop from other suppliers.
