The star works exactly as the instructions state, it plugs directly into the socket at the top of my tree and the lighting effects follow the ones on the tree itself.

I received my NTC tree top star today and immediately placed it at the top of my tree. I’m very pleased with it. I have read the negative reviews of this star and feel many of them may be for the following reasons. First, the tree top star will only work with the National Tree Company’s models that have the female end connector in the top tree section (comes with your tree when you purchased it). The male connector is on the tree top star. I’m assuming not all NTC trees have that female connector. So, if you don’t see that unused connector at the top of your NTC tree, this tree top star will not work. In response to the weight of the star and it doesn’t stay upright. With my star, I received a green plastic rod and 2 tie wraps to secure the rod next to the center branch at the top of your tree. You attach that first. Then you insert the star into the white plastic cone that comes with it and place the plastic cone down over the top of the green pole. This will keep the star rigid/vertical so it won’t be flimsy and lean over. There are easy to read instructions for all the above with the star. Hope this helps.

It is well made and very colorful, but it’s too tall to easily balance on top of the tree and looks a little gangly on top of the tree. Would be better if the bottom point of the star was the same length as the rest of the points in the star.
