Now the resolution of my laptop and monitor are the same. In short, awesome. Also, my color-calibrated laptop and now monitor calibrated with Spectra Vue are exactly the same. Makes WFH fun.

Poor uniformity and very annoying noise after 1 year of use

I have used NEC monitors at work off and on for a number of years. I liked the clarity and the quality. I bought this for the resolution, on screen controls, color, real estate, screen size and connection choices. I primarily use the displayport cable with a laptop. No issues so far, plug it in and go. Unlike other monitors I have tried. Definitely recommend it. I have 2 of them.

I have purchased a number of these for designers and editors in my organization and they look great and are reliable. I power my Macbook Pro using the USB connection, eliminating the need for my power supply. The calibration tools are easy to use. Color reproduction is excellent.

This is my second NEC monitor. I had the first, a 24 2K for 12 years. 4K is a whole new world and my photographs look great on it.

In general NEC monitors are great. In terms of build, features, and build quality, it is a great monitor. However, I came across a few issues with my monitor. One is a high-frequency noise that the monitor emits whenever there is a change in brightness. The noise becomes constant in low brightness. This could be a deal breaker. Another issue is with the USB-C functionality. I constantly get the USBC malfunction error when connecting the monitor to my Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Carbon (gen 7) via the USB cable. The only solution that worked for me is keep the laptop connected to a charger. Therefore, depending on your laptop, the charging functionality may not work even if your laptop is rated below 75W. Lastly, the auto brightness is unintuitive to set up and (in my case) does not work properly either.

I purchased this monitor a few months ago, due to the COVID pandemic and working from home. I love the amount of screen real estate this monitor gives me. I am able to keep 3 windows open, side by side, at the same time on this monitor. I am using this monitor with a 2017 iMac, 27 (5K). You will almost certainly have to buy a cable to use with this monitor if you are using a Mac, and if you want 4K at 60Hz, you have to buy specific cables. I am currently using a Moshi USB-C to DisplayPort connector purchased from Apple. I’m not sure if B&H sells this adapter or not. If you choose to use HDMI, be sure to buy Premium High Speed cables for 60Hz. Non ‘Premium’ cables will only run at 30Hz. Your computer will likely need to be fairly modern to support this; I tried a ThinkPad Yoga 14 I have from 2016, and it would only run at 30 Hz. My iMac runs at 60 Hz, once I found the right cables. My 2014 MacBook Pro will not support 4K monitors, and has to be run at lower resolutions. It is also compatible with NEC SpectraView, in case you do color critical work, such as photography or graphic design. I occasionally do some graphic design for my job, although I would more call myself a hobbyist. I had the SpectraView kit from another monitor I use, the NEC P232W. I was able to calibrate all 3 NEC monitors I have on this computer (the EA271U, P232W, and EA231WU). The only downside of SpectraView is that the sensors included with SV cannot be used with other calibration programs, and the SV program cannot calibrate non-NEC monitors (and not all NEC monitors are supported if you have multiples). The monitor stand seems to be of good quality, and can tilt, height adjust, and rotate. You can also VESA mount the monitor if you wish. The human sensor on this monitor seems to be kind of buggy to me, and doesn’t work all the time, so I probably wouldn’t buy this monitor if that is a feature you care about. It will, of course, go to sleep with your computer, though. One feature I wish this monitor had (and NEC’s higher end monitors do have, but they cost a lot more) is called DisplaySync Pro. It allows you to use your monitor as a KVM to hook up two computers to one monitor, while only using one keyboard and mouse set. It’s not a dealbreaker for me though, but it would definitely be a nice-to-have. Overall, This is a fantastic monitor, and I definitely recommend it.
