Growing up my dad and I used to dehydrate everything, we made lots of our own fresh herbs and home-made fruit roll ups. I gave this unit a try and love it! It comes with four trays, a roll-up sheet and a sheet for making dried spices (or flowers if you are into that). You can add up to 16 more trays, but I’m assuming the dry time would significantly increase. Love that the trays and bottom are completely submersible for easier cleaning (although cleaning cinnamon sugar off each tray will never be super easy). The unit looks sharp, the settings are very easy to use and read to see how much longer you have to go. It comes with a great booklet with basic drying instructions and how to achieve the best results with veggies, fruit n flowers, and herbs. I’m planning on making fresh fruit roll ups for my 20 month old this weekend. The unit is a little loud if you plan on leaving it out in your kitchen at night and have a small house like I do. But it’s not an annoying sound, just a low pitch whirring from the fan.

This is the best for the money. Jerky, apples, mushrooms, zucchini, all I have done so far and all were perfect. Easy clean and quiet.

I’m very happy with this dehydrator. It’s great to be able set the time and temperature and then walk away without a worry since it automatically shuts itself off. It’s quite roomy, which is good for the amount of items that can be dehydrated but it does take up a lot of space on the counter. I was able to make a nice variety of dried fruits for Christmas parties, and everyone loved them – especially the pineapple! So good!

My daughter-in-law loves it. Easy to use and does what it promises. Se is excited by all the possibilities ahead. She made jerky which everyone in the family loved and it did not last long! She dried fruit and keeps it for a healthy snack. She loves all things natural and this fits in exactly.

I would recommed this Gardenmaster Food Dehydrator. Quality built product, easy to use and very functional. It comes all assembled and ready to use, with a quick rinse of some of the parts. I started with drying cherries that I had just picked. I found the instructions easy to follow and very helpful. I just cut my cherries and placed them in the drying trays, they take longer about 16 hours but well worth it. They taste great and now I can store them to take hiking and camping. I am now going to try making my own jerky which I am very excited about. You can add trays to this and go up to 20 cooking sections. 1000 watts of drying power is more then enough. Adjustable thermostat from 95 – 155 degrees. I will be able to pick more fruit, dry and keep for longer periods of time. I am very happy with this product and the amount of uses for this Dehydrator are to many to mention here.

So far, I’ve only used it to make fruit leather. It took longer than the book said it should, but I was operating it with only 1 tray. Later I read in the instruction booklet that you’re suppose to use at least 4 trays. So that was my fault. I live that this model is 1000 watts and had the digital display for temp. Control and timer. I also like that you can purchase more trays and stack up to 20 trays.

this is the way to preserve our food items with this pandemic who knows if food will get scarce in the future I am using my dehydrator almost every day, Excellent purchase

Easy to use. You do have to move the trays from top to bottom, depending on how long you are dehydrating. I have used it about 6 or 7 times just in the last month.

I was super excited to try my hand at making beef jerky, and it was incredibly easy using the Nesco food dehydrator. I’ve had other people’s beef jerky, and wasn’t really impressed with their results, it would be too dried out and brittle, or taste kind of funky, depending on the seasonings they used, but I actually can say I got a professional result on my first attempt at making beef jerky!!I wasn’t sure what I was doing, so I bought a cheap, non fatty cut of meat which the instructions recommended. In my neck of the woods, they call them charcoal steaks, or round steaks that were pre-sliced by the butcher about 1/4″ thick. I sliced the steaks in about 3/4″ wide strips going against the grain like it said to do in the instruction manual, so when you bite it, it isn’t coming off stringy. I also cut off all the fat, and removed any of the “silver skin” connective tissue, as the instructions stated also, because the fat will tend to go rancid if stored over a period of time.I bought a sesame teriyaki marinade / wok sauce that I thought tasted good on my stir fry at the store, added a couple of Tablespoons of soy sauce to thin it down a bit, and added a couple of Tablespoons of brown sugar and shook in some course ground black pepper, and let it marinate overnight. I wanted to keep the ingredient list small on the marinade so I could see where I wanted to go flavor-wise on the next batch, and not try to figure out what I put in that needed to be eliminated and what I could use next time to enhance the flavor if it needed it. The next day, after the meat marinated overnight, I put the meat on the trays, and I had enough meat to fill 2 trays. The trays are pretty generous in size, at about 13 1/2″. You’re supposed to use all 4 trays even though they’re empty, I guess because of correct heat dispersal and correct air flow so the unit can work properly. I put the 2 trays that I filled on the bottom, so the other 2 trays didn’t get dripped on and I didn’t have to clean them. I set the timer for 2 hours, at 155 degrees. The machine has a digital display for the timer and temperature. After 2 hours, I dropped the temperature down to 145 degrees, and set the timer for another 2 hours. My results were great. The beef jerky was chewy and not brittle and was comparable to commercially made beef jerky, that is so expensive at the store, and I made the first batch that was a good amount for less than $5.00 using the cheapest cuts of meat. One pound of meat yields about 8 oz of dried jerky. I think there is an unwritten understanding that beef jerky, in any amount, if it is good, is always consumed until it’s gone. If you make a batch, and people take one and don’t touch it after that, you didn’t do it right. The instructions say that drying times will vary, depending on how much you’re drying, and how many racks you’re using, so it might be good to keep notes on what gives the best results and to monitor the drying process. The stats say that the dryer can accommodate up to 20 drying trays. The unit has a handle so you can lift it off easily to check your trays, and monitor what you’re drying. It also came with a fruit roll up mat and also a flexible drying mat for drying fruit that might be sticky, so it’s easier to remove.I’m looking forward to using this a lot for making beef jerky, and also for drying flowers for crafts and preserving them. The digital display is straightforward, and easy to understand, and you toggle between the timer and temperature, and has a quick reference guide on drying temperatures on the top of the dryer unit. It’s moderately quiet, like a fan running when it’s on, and produces a small amount of heat that can be felt outside the unit. The dehydrator comes with 4 trays, a fruit roll up sheet, flexible drying sheet, 2 packets of jerky mix and a user’s guide with recipes and instructions. Made in the USA! Definitely recommend!!

This is an excellent option for anyone looking to dehydrate food. It comes fully assembled with four trays that each hold a good deal of food. It works well and seems to provide heat evenly. The temperature is easily set via the digital thermostat. Probably the best thing about this model, other than its performance, is that it’s easy to clean. The fan is on top, meaning you don’t have to worry about food dripping down on it and having to clean it by hand. All the trays can be submersed, so it makes scrubbing them clean relatively easy. It is a little cumbersome to store, but that’s to be expected. As long as you’ve got room for it in your pantry or cabinet, it’s definitely a great addition to any kitchen.

I like that the blower and heater are built into the top of the dehydrator instead of the bottom like my old one. This means that if you put anything wet on the trays or when bits fall off they fall into a base that is total washable. The top that you can’t immerse in water should stay clean. The effective drying area on the trays for this dehydrator is 355 mm diameter compared to my old one which was 323 mm, so even though this one only comes with 4 trays and I bought 2 extra ones for my old tray the drying area is probably about the same.I would like to get some extra fruit roll sheets so I have one for each tray but that is a problem. It comes with 4 trays and 1 fruit roll sheet, so I need 3 more. Unfortunately they come in packs of 2. I don’t really want an extra one. I don’t know who at the company did the math on this. I called NESCO customer service but their answer was to just buy 4. I’m sure that works well for the company but not for me. I was told it is only $5 for shipping which isn’t bad but I’ll have to compare with Amazon. They have a recipe book that comes with the dehydrator that looks good but I haven’t done any of them yet.

Never had a food dehydrator before so I was excited to give this a try and see what I could create. For my first attempt, I cannot believe how little effort it took to make the best jerky I’ve ever tasted. i just followed the directions for slicing the meat and let it dry for 4 hours since we live in a dry climate. I finished the meat off in the oven for 10 minutes at 275 degrees just to be on the safe side & it still came out perfectly chewy without being brittle or hard. The machine is pretty lightweight and the controls are easy to figure out (not complicated). The trays are plastic and were easy to clean, although they seem a little weak if you had to really scrub them.It would be nice if extra trays and inserts were easily available rather than having to go through the manufacturer’s website. That said, the trays are generously sized and there’s plenty of room for small batches.
