Dual band technology helps to reduce interference for improved connections to Wi-Fi devices and allows users to connect to networks supporting 5 and 2.4 GHz frequencies. The 5 GHz frequency supports 802.11a/n and allows compatible devices to take advantage of data transfer speeds of up to 867 Mbps for HD video streaming and online gaming. The 2.4 GHz frequency supports 802.11b/g/n and provides data transfer speeds of up to 300 Mbps, allowing users to engage in less-intensive web tasks, such as web browsing. The 5 GHz frequency also supports 802.11ac, allowing users to benefit from connectivity speeds of up to 1200 Mbps.
For those who are concerned about this USB Wi-Fi adapter not having a strong range, the AC1200 has been designed for use in large homes and features high gain antennas for improved performance. Beamforming+ technology is also integrated into this adapter and helps to further boost speed, range, and reliability. Push ‘N’ Connect helps to create secure push button Wi-Fi connections (WPS) and Netgear genie dashboard controls help to connect a Wi-Fi device to your home network.
This Wi-Fi USB 3.0 adapter is compatible with Pentium class systems running 64 and 32-bit editions of Windows 8, 7, Vista, and XP. Although a USB 3.0 port is recommended, this adapter is backwards compatible with USB 2.0 and 1.1. Included with the AC1200 Wi-Fi USB 3.0 Adapter is a USB cable with a desktop dock.

I just bought this product this evening, installed the drivers from the included CD, plugged in the device, and boom! Good to go. I’m not sure what everyone is complaining about, this product works fine and 3 rooms away from the router, I only lose about 1-5% of my network speed on 5 ghz. Ping and latency response times of an Ethernet connection. No issues. I pay for 240 MBPS internet, and with this adapter 3 rooms away from my router, I get about 238 MBPS, which is nothing to complain about. Great product Netgear, just wish it was a little cheaper. See below my speed test.

This adapter has been my adapter for 2 years now. It’s good for gaming and watching and that’s why it’s 4 stars. It lost a star because of the disconnecting driver issue, but that was quickly resolved using microsofts drivers.

My problem was solved with this USB WiFi Adapter. I used to have issues with connection, especially in my bedroom, and now it’s way better – no more slow and intermittent connection which makes me super happy. Set up was easy; I do not have a CD drive on my computer, so I went to the website, download the driver, plug the USB into the computer, and that’s it – set up was successful. The instructions were also included. While I love this USB adopter, it is a bit of inconvenience when moving the laptop around because the adopter sticks out of the USB port. However, I am happy that it gets the job done.

Now trying the stand alone version of the driver. Re-installing the netgear driver seems to help, but what kind of a product requires constant debugging and fixing straight off the shelf?

I am very impressed with how much faster my older laptop performs when I use this wifi adapter. I really was not sure what to expect, but I am glad I got this adapter. I now have more power, signal and reception which is what I was after. The set up was easy and though I do wish it was a bit smaller in size, I love that it has improved my laptops abilities.
