Using its USB 3.0 port, connect your Windows-compatible desktop or notebook computer to dual band 802.11ac wireless networks, as well as 802.11a/b/g/n networks with the AC1200 Wi-Fi USB 3.0 Adapter from Netgear. Dual band technology helps to reduce interference for improved connections to Wi-Fi devices and allows users to connect to networks supporting 5 and 2.4 GHz frequencies. The 5 GHz frequency supports 802.11a/n and allows compatible devices to take advantage of data transfer speeds of up to 867 Mbps for HD video streaming and online gaming. The 2.4 GHz frequency supports 802.11b/g/n and provides data transfer speeds of up to 300 Mbps, allowing users to engage in less-intensive web tasks, such as web browsing. The 5 GHz frequency also supports 802.11ac, allowing users to benefit from connectivity speeds of up to 1200 Mbps.
For those who are concerned about this USB Wi-Fi adapter not having a strong range, the AC1200 has been designed for use in large homes and features high gain antennas for improved performance. Beamforming+ technology is also integrated into this adapter and helps to further boost speed, range, and reliability. Push ‘N’ Connect helps to create secure push button Wi-Fi connections (WPS) and Netgear genie dashboard controls help to connect a Wi-Fi device to your home network.
This Wi-Fi USB 3.0 adapter is compatible with Pentium class systems running 64 and 32-bit editions of Windows 8, 7, Vista, and XP. Although a USB 3.0 port is recommended, this adapter is backwards compatible with USB 2.0 and 1.1. Included with the AC1200 Wi-Fi USB 3.0 Adapter is a USB cable with a desktop dock.

This product has been a problem since the moment I started using it. I’m not sure what the threshold is, but it drops its connection to my WiFi network every time it takes a certain volume of data. I can tell this because my internet diagnostics resets the adapter every time it drops connection and it fixes it each time. I work from home and use VoIP constantly, and this performance is unacceptable.

I am not tech literate (my son would agree), I still use a flip cell phone. If it ain’t broke, no need to upgrade. However, I took the chance on this wifi adapter. The genie software on cd had simple instruction for installation with easy set up push n connect. This adapter provides faster connection, speed and range increased, and has a reliable connection for my browsing and streaming needs.

I recently purchased another brand usb router a week before I went back out and purchased my NETGEAR AC1200 WIFI USB ADAPTER the other brand sucked completely no pun intended the NETGEAR AC1200 WIFI USB ADAPTER has been great lol I have 2 desktop computers one has wifi built in I even installed it on that one as well so when I use it I can just pop the NETGEAR AC1200 WIFI USB ADAPTER into its one of its USB SLOTS and use the NETGEAR AC1200 WIFI USB ADAPTER instead thinking about purchasing another just so I wont have to swap them out anymore just have one for each PC!!!

Worked fine with Win7 – upgraded to 10, immediately started throwing page faults as soon as I plug the adapter in. Uninstallreinstall, new GenieStandaloneMediatek OEM tried, all unsuccessful. Seems to be a commonly reported issue – not sure how this is on the market anymore, honestly.

This was a pain in the butt to install because it has a CD installation kit. What computer comes with a CD insert these days? I was super frustrated by this, and would not recommend. It was a whole to-do with my tech team from work, and was certainly not worth it.

I had a problem that my first floor router was not providing an adequate connection to my second floor desktop PC. I had an AC 600 Linksys adapter, but the speed was pathetic. Since buying and installs the Netgear AC 1200, I have a good connection and adequate speed on the dated PC. I recognize that the age of the PC and it’s processor a a part of the problem but the new adapter has improved my speed trmendously
