With tri-band functionality, the R8000P Nighthawk X6S AC4000 Wireless Tri-Band Gigabit Router from NETGEAR is capable of supporting connected clients on the single 2.4 GHz frequency or either of the two 5 GHz frequencies. The single 2.4 GHz frequency supports data transfer rates of up to 750 Mbps while the 5 GHz frequencies support data transfer rates of up to 1.625 Gbps to handle bandwidth-intensive tasks such as streaming multimedia content, online gaming, downloading large files, and more. The Nighthawk X6S also supports the 802.11ac Wi-Fi network standard with a total Wi-Fi bandwidth of up to 4000 Mbps. If a wired connection is needed, users can connect Ethernet-enabled devices to any of the four Gigabit Ethernet ports for a reliable wired network connection.
The Nighthawk X6S features MU-MIMO, or Multiple User-Multiple Input, Multiple Output technology, making it easy to connect multiple devices to the router, each with its own dedicated pathway to the network. In addition to MU-MIMO technology, the Nighthawk X6S also supports cloud storage functionality. Simply connect a compatible USB hard drive to the router’s USB port and access your files using the ReadyCLOUD mobile app or web portal. Managing your network has also been simplified thanks to the NETGEAR genie App which offers a variety of management tools as well as the ability to remotely manage your network when you’re away.

Living in todays overcrowded wireless world isp supplied routers and most soho routers seem to be overwhelmed with interference. I recently moved my office to an annex on my house to find even after adjusting channels there was simply no signal. I bought this hoping to make sure my work and play pcs both worked well. Instead of 25 Mbps of bandwidth available as found with the ISP device I’m getting about 250 Mbps here and the full 500mbps in the main home. As a network engineer I’ve seen enterprise grade hardware perform far less satisfactorily than this did even before adjusting channels. Great purchase.

Upgraded to this router from an older name brand router. The setup was easy, just make sure to update the firmware using an Ethernet connection. This router has the security features I was looking for and the Wi-Fi range covers our 1,700 sq ft home with full basement without any issues. We also have no problems with Wi-Fi out in the yard. I would highly recommend this router.

This router is top notch! Streaming Wi-Fi with no problems and so easy to install and with the app a breeze to make changes.

When this router works it is awesome, the best functional and easiest to work on router I’ve ever owned! But even after 3 years and the latest firmware along with multiple documented reports of the issue, it will require an in-plug and re-plug once a day, internet will just completely stop working on your devices even though there will be a white light on the router.

The router does have some speed but issues persist even after updating the firmware. All of the laptops that have tabs always do not work on the first time trying to open or pretty much anything on a browser including phones. After opening a few times it works well but is rather annoying and totally not worth the 299 i paid for it. I get better usability out of a router that is way older with out any issues buyer beware as I will never purchase netgear again period.

I can’t update the firmware and the router seems to be dying now. Some of the 5 G networks will just stop working or randomly rename the SSID, effectively dropping everything attached to that network. Kind of annoying.

My old Netgear dual-band router had seen better days and so I decided to give the R8000P a go. The initial highlight of the features for me was beam forming, which helped me overcome WiFi dead zones in my home. Then a few other features stood out and impressed me. The ability to check the speed at the front end of my network, the improved logging with attack identifications, and the level of network control and information that’s available from within the Nighthawk app. On top of those things, I was also pleased to see the same familiar web interface that I prefer to use while implementing more complex router configurations such as subnetting, vlans, address reservations, and internet/WiFi scheduling. I’m still in the process of testing Netgear Armor during the free month trial that was offered, but I can say that I already like it and will be purchasing a full year subscription. Previously, I was paying for a Fing subscription to analyze my network and help to find/track vulnerabilities and issues. But now, my Nighthawk has the same abilities built into Netgear Armor. One feature that I would still like to see is the ability to receive notifications when a device goes offline. The Nighthawk app also has the option of utilizing Circle for parental controls, which includes managing your child’s internet usage, device time and content restrictions. Something I plan to work with more moving forward. Overall, a Nighthawk router is a worthwhile upgrade and has convinced me to spend more on my home networking in the future. The features and performance differences are honestly worth it.

This is the first Nighthawk Wi-Fi router I have ever purchased and I am so glad that I did. It was very easy to connect to my modem, and the connection to my network was simple. I love the fact that there are three available bands to use. Many household devices connect with the 2.4g band, while my smart tv works well with the 5g. Then there is the second 5g allowing for future technology, I don’t have cable channels, so I stream nearly all of my tv content. A lag is such a rare occurrence that I might as well say that there IS no lag. This is a router that I would recommend to anyone searching for a dependable Wi-Fi router.

This is our second router just like this. We had to get a new one because ours was struck by lightning. It was so easy to set up, and the mobile app makes trouble shooting so much easier along with general management. I can even limit device internet access with the app. Great purchase!

We replaced our nighthawk with an Netgear 66, a really big improvement especially the speed. 100% satisfied

Works great, covers a large area with appropriate signal. Can simultaneously connect several devices without issue.
Tiara Jast (verified owner) –
Great router but at random if you lose power sometimes it resets itself to factory settings so you have to set up your network again. And it never seems to accept the firmware updates

Added this router inside my new Pastor’s Study and it runs everything seemlessly.

Works ok, easy set up, but the range is limited. I’ll see if an extender will help.

Great signal throughout the entire house. We had issues with a previous router with WiFi signal and strength, but this router really came through! Easy to install!
