Boost the speed and efficiency of your home Wi-Fi network with the Nighthawk AX12 12-Stream Wi-Fi 6 Router from Netgear. Equipped with eight internal antennas and capable of up to 6 Gb/s of total Wi-Fi throughout, this dual-band router supports the Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) wireless standard. Among the benefits of Wi-Fi 6 are multi-user MIMO support, which allows for multiple simultaneous data streams; OFDMA (orthogonal frequency division multiple access) support, which helps to enhance efficiency and reduce latency; and target wake time (TWT), which helps to optimize the battery life of connected mobile devices.
The Nighthawk AX12 comes equipped with four Gigabit Ethernet LAN ports, a Gigabit Ethernet LAN port, and a 5 Gb/s Ethernet port that allows for multi-gigabit wired connections. Two USB 3.0/3.1 Gen 1 Type-A ports let you share printers and storage devices, while WPA3 encryption helps to enhance security.

Works great, but this model doesn’t have the parental controls. So, I just put my kids on the 2G network and turn that one off at night. Cool feature: you can test your internet speed directly from the router!

Now up and running, the Nighthawk is great. All my devices are running faster and more smoothly than when they were connected to our old router. However, I did have some difficulty with the initial setup. The directions did not clearly state that the cell phone with the Nighthawk app had to be cellular data off, Bluetooth off, and local hot spot off. Also not clear was that the old router network had to be shut off after switching internet connection to the Nighthawk. Finally, one of my devices (PC) did not “see” the Nighthawk and I had to conclude on my own that the lap top needed the latest wireless driver to connect to the Nighthawk network. So all in all the router is great, but having a more detailed setup check list would have saved me hours of work.

The router is not “plug and play”. Within the first few days the internet would drop every so often. On about the fourth day the wifi signal did not work. My ISP said there is probably a setting on the router that needs to be changed. Now I need to call Netgear to check on the setting.
