Capable of throughput up to 6,000 Mb/s, the Nighthawk AX8 AX6000 Wi-Fi Router from Netgear supports Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax), a wireless standard that allows for faster Wi-Fi speeds, more simultaneous upload and download streams, and greater energy efficiency for battery-powered wireless clients than previous Wi-Fi standards.
Equipped with four internal antennas, five 10/100/1000 Mb/s Ethernet LAN port, one 10/100/1000 Mb/s Ethernet WAN port, and a pair of USB 3.0/3.1 Gen 1 Type-A ports, the Wi-Fi 6-enabled Nighthawk AX8 AX6000 supports OFDMA (Orthogonal Frequency-Division Multiple Access) and multi-user MIMO (Multiple Input and Multiple Output) to deliver faster and more reliable Wi-Fi connections compared to Wi-Fi 5 (802.11ac). The router also boasts a Smart Connect feature that selects the best Wi-Fi band for your devices, allowing for a single network name for both wireless bands, as well as voice control via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant.

Initial setup was pretty straightforward but had a little trouble activating device. Patience and perseverance for me through. Overall operation has been relatively smooth but device mysteriously drops out, causing connected devices to disconnect requiring manual reset. (connected Devices all worked perfectly with previous modem and router). Problem intermittent, today it has worked fine. A little disappointed with dropouts, cost of device was pretty high so I expected more consistent operation out of the box.

The setup was quick and easy, and it delivers much faster speeds than the Xfinity rental equipment I had (X-Fi). This will handle increases in speed for years and eventually pay for itself by not paying the equipment rental fees. I also like the switch on the back to turn off the led lights.

This is by far the best router/modem combo I’ve had in a while. I’m a huge gamer so I like investing in my hobbies. It may not be cheap but it’s worth the price. Just alone it’s double the speed of my previous router and it’s a powerhouse with Cox gigablast. The design is also so sleek and nice looking. It reaches to all of my rooms no problem and I have 5 devices including 3 Xbox’s and it doesn’t affect the signal one bit!!!!

Note: I have a nighthawk router. I hardlined my wifi extender from the router. I did set up new wireless access points on the wifi extender. The UI is a little clunky using the genie desktop app and even the nighthawk app mobile app. Like it shows the connection is there for me as an extender. But some functionalities that I would expect aren’t. Plus it just recognizes the extenders as devices and ip or Mac addresses. Which just doesn’t make sense to me on the network map.

Works well. Connected all my computers and most internet of things devices right away using the same router name/password as my old router. Some other things needed to unplugged and replugged, a few needed to be completely set up again.

I think the Netgear Nighthawk Cable Modem Wifi 6 Router combo is a very good modem router. However I am getting used to it. it has some quirks For one I wish the app could be downloaded to my computer instead of my phone. The app seems to suck the energy out of my phone. Then there are times that it will shut off/on while trying to use it. It takes some time to acknowledge a new device added to the system. I have had to reenter my password to get my phone back online. I can navigate without any problems and pages load a lot faster. I would recommend it even though it has the quirks I listed.
