Help ensure that your home is fully covered by high-speed wireless network access with the Orbi AX4200 Wireless Tri-Band Mesh Wi-Fi System from Netgear. This Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) mesh system includes a router and one satellite that are each designed with six high-powered antennas to provide up to 1800 Mb/s of bandwidth to connected devices through the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz frequencies, covering up to 5000 square feet. A dedicated 5 GHz connection allows the Orbi router and satellite to transfer data to each other at up to 2400 Mb/s. In total, that’s about 4x the speed of 802.11ac, delivering smooth 4K video streaming and online gaming experiences. The router has three Gigabit Ethernet ports, while the satellite has two, allowing you to connect wired devices such as smart TVs, game consoles, computers, and more. Use the Orbi app to quickly configure and manage the devices, including setting up a guest network login. You can also use Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant to issue voice commands.

These units on paper seem awesome. They do perform quite well. Downsides, they’re bulky and too large, esp. when you need 3+ of them in a larger home. Biggest issue I’ve faced is losing access to the administrative access and losing routing within my network to select things (not because of logins), but because of the unit failing. The only way to get back into it was completely factory resetting it. What a joke and it’s only been in service a few months. Second, moved it to another home yesterday and once again, the administrative (incl Orbi app), access was lost again. Of course, had to reset it again to factory to get it back up and running. Finally, after the 3rd time, it worked. It also kept going in a loop with resetting the admin password. Crazy! Not impressed, so will likely replace the system with another Mesh system. My previous Netgear AC3200 units have been flawless for years. These orbi units are seriously lacking backend stability within its core system. Not impressed and can’t recommend whatsoever.

Once we were able to get our unit updated with the most recent firmware patches, the WiFi in our home was markedly faster. We can now stream videos in the farthest reaches of our home that we’re traditionally dead spots. Could not be happier with the results!

Does everything as expected and needed. I live in a 3-story house, and the signal from the router and one satellite reaches everywhere it’s needed with clarity and speed. The Netgear phone app is very useful for monitoring remotely, as well. I know what all this mesh stuff is, but I am not a tech-head, and the B&H salesperson was very helpful in navigating the consumer maze of wireless mesh offerings. He spent an undistracted 20 minutes with me, first gaining understanding my of needs and then going through the many different options, ultimately culling it all down to a choice of three, and from there the decision was easy. I’ve been a B&H customer since the 1980s – in person, by phone and online – and have always been happy with their advice and expertise.

I wish there was a feature to direct the system to use initialized 2.4ghz or 5ghz bandwidth for backchannel communications between satellites because the third band, which is dedicated to backchannel, appears to be limited to about 240mbs.
