Expand the range and capabilities of your home’s Wi-Fi system with the Orbi Voice Smart Speaker and AC2200 Tri-Band Wireless Mesh Extender from Netgear, which combines the convenience of an Amazon Alexa-enabled smart speaker with the functionality of a tri-band 802.11ac Wi-Fi mesh satellite. It features four amplified high-performance antennas with a maximum wireless data transfer rate of up to 2134 Mb/s across the 2.4 GHz and two 5 GHz frequency bands when paired with Orbi routers with dedicated Wi-Fi link data connections to watch streaming video, play games, and more. However, it is designed to work with almost any 802.11ac router, using both Beamforming and Multi-User MIMO technology to extend wireless network coverage through walls and floors to help eliminate dead spots in medium and large homes. Additionally, the satellite includes two Gigabit Ethernet ports for connecting wired devices such as smart TVs, video game consoles, and computers.
The module’s integrated 35W smart speaker system is comprised of a 3.5″ front-facing subwoofer and 1″ tweeter for loud, room-filling sound. With built-in Amazon Alexa support, you can stream music from services such as Amazon Music, Spotify, iHeartRadio, Pandora, and more. Additionally, you can shop, control compatible smart devices, and issue commands to the smart speaker through the four far-field microphones. With its compact and elegant design, the Orbi Voice is made to blend in with almost any home setting.

The value of this device depends on your needs. If you are looking for an Orbi extender than also is a smart speaker with decent sound quality, this is for you. Unlike other Echo devices, however, this does not allow calling or “intercom” between Alexa devices, or drop in communication. I’ve also noticed that Orbi-to-Orbi handoffs are not as seamless as advertised, and I’ve noticed my devices clinging onto poorer signal from other Orbi access points when moving through the house. If these issues were resolved, this would be a 4 star review – the sound quality lags behind an Echo Studio, but is far better than a standard Echo. For the price I paid, however, the device is a bargain simply as an Orbi extender; the Echo functionality is gravy.

Orbi functionality works as expected. Re. Echo, it frequently has to be restarted for various glitches. Also, the light can’t be seen unless you are standing over it. Finally, it can’t be part of an Echo speaker group, which makes no sense.

The speaker isn’t as good as the newest Alexa but it is good enough. The extender is awesome and in my garage where I used to get 13mbs at best, I now get 90-100mbs!

Bought this to add to my Orbi modem/router for extra coverage upstairs in our home. Seems to have improved coverage but after connecting it to Alexa/Prime I’m blow away with how good music sounds on the speaker. Well worth the $99 bucks for that alone! All of the set up was super easy which is typical or Orbi products 🙂

Works well as a satellite for my Orbi 5 system. Works ok as a somewhat limited Alexa device. Sound quality is pretty good, as well. Integration is not well documented. Once you complete the puzzle it connects. Outstanding value for this level of functionality. As orbi is moving to 6 and beyond, I don’t see this continuing to be available for long n
