NOVA 35018 Sharpening Center brings the precision of machine grinding, but without the cost. The NOVA 35018 Sharpening Center combines the traditional Grinding Jig and the Powerful Finger Grind Jig into one versatile sharpening tool. Achieve true and precise machine grinding with controlled sideway, delivering all the advantages of a grinding machine to your bench grinder. Designed to be lightweight but rigid – your hand feels the grind, not the holder. The Finger Grind attachment is included as standard equipment, giving enormous capacity for large chisels up to 1 in. It is able to handle spindle and bowl gouges, parting tools, skew chisels, scraping tools plus woodworking chisels. The best grinding principles are used – the across the carriage minimizes contact with the wheel thus reduces heating. This is the best method to allow the chisel tip to retain it hardness and edge. It also keeps the grinding wheel in good condition. The NOVA 35018 Sharpening Center can precisely and easily dress the stone accurately. The sideway makes the dressing easy – the wheel is perfectly flat and parallel. Most other systems rely on hand dressing. Note: Diamond dressing or other dressing stones are not included as standard in the unit. Fits 6 in. and 8 in. bench grinders. Designed by Teknatool International, innovating since 1955. Backed by a full replacement 2-Year warranty. Call our customer service center toll free on 1-866-748-3025.

The center is well made but not perfect. The tightening clamp on the long bar is has a problem with the nut spinning. And the shape makes it difficult to avoid the grinder base and keep the top very close to the grinding wheel. But I think it is inventive with both the straight and angled columns in the plate for roughing gouges and skew chisels.

Easy to assemble. Not too difficult to mount and use. The sliding plate is a little sloppy; but, can be used successfully when held against the lower edge of the slot. It’s an exceptional value compared to free-handing. I’m sure there are ‘better’ systems out there; however, they can be very pricey.

I bought this to sharpen my wood lathe turning tools. I’m very happy with my Nova lathe (1624) and hoped the quality would be similar. The red metal base was bent but using a vise and a big hammer, I managed to get it straight and pretty level. It was supposed to be mounted on a piece of wood so the top of the unit would be slightly above the center of the grinding wheel. The grinder I bought to use with it (Wen 8″ Slow Speed) didn’t allow this. The tubing that slides in and out would hit the bottom of the wheel guard. I ended up raising the grinder to allow clearance. But, since the tool being sharpened is above the center of the wheel, it works. I mounted it on the right side (60 grit wheel) of the grinder. So far, I have sharpened a 1/2″ round nose, 3/8″ gouge, 5/8″ gouge and a 1″ gouge. Using only the main unit and the aluminum sliding beveled piece, it works well and get the tools really sharp. The directions recommended a 45 degree angle and the marks on the sides were hard to dechiper so I used an old protractor style level to set the proper angle. I haven’t tried the sliding arm unit yet.
